Chapter 1359
It was unnecessary for the company president to personally attend the bid; a capable employee could have handled it. However, Fabian shook his head, looking at Maria. "You don't understand! Alexander went abroad because something happened at his Burnwken factoryโa poisoning incident among his staff. Regardless of the situation in Burnwken, his absence leaves his company vulnerable."
Fabian hoped Alexander wouldn't returnโbetter yet, that he might die there. Alexander's death would throw La Beaute Group into chaos, causing their market share to plummet. This would be Fabian's opportunity to acquire a significant portion of the company and surpass them. The very thought made him laugh. "Why go to Burnwken personally? Why not send someone else?"
Maria, while sharing Fabian's desired outcome, didn't understand Alexander's actions. "Youngsters," Fabian explained, "want to impress. They do everything themselves. Those poor immigrant workers have nothing; if they worked for me, they'd be grateful for the food I provide!"
Fabian shook his head. He'd heard stories about Alexander; either the Burnwken trip was a show of force, or he was simply foolish. As a businessman, why waste time on an unprofitable venture? With employee poisoning, shouldn't he fear retaliation from affected families and local workers? Fabian believed a high-level executive should have been sent to appease the situation; a simple monetary offer would have sufficed. Alexander's actions, however, played perfectly into Fabian's hands.
He felt fortunate; things were going remarkably well. His brother-in-law had finally offered assistance, and now his biggest competitor was facing a crisis. This was his chance to thrive.
Maria still didn't fully grasp her husband's explanation, but she was happy for him. Her mood lifted. "All right," she said, "I'll leave you to your wine. Don't dawdle. I'm calling Ree." Missing her daughter, Maria pushed the wine glass toward Fabian and went to her room.
Three rings later, Rhea answered. Relief washed over Maria. "Ree, why so long? I was about to call the police!"
"Mom, I told you, if I don't answer, I'm busy with my experiment," a deep female voice replied.
"Oh, did I wake you?" Maria whispered.
"No, I'm experimenting."
Maria sighed, unsure what to do with her daughter.
