Look at you. I just meant wouldn't it be good if you could be a secretary like Cameron? I'm not saying I want to marry him. Why are you so uptight? Maria nudged him and continued, "Besides, with Cameron's dull temperament, only your sister can stand him. I could never!"
She couldn't afford to offend her husband; she still wanted a life free from financial worry. She quickly tried to coax him.
Upon hearing this, Fabian's face brightened. "That's true. He's too uptight. To be honest, he's like a thorn in my side. I doubt he could have climbed to where he is without that temperament!"
After muttering a few words, he continued drinking his wine. Then, remembering something, he turned to her. "By the way, have you figured out what kind of miracle doctor you've been seeing?"
"Don't even talk about that. I didn't see him because your niece refused. If you ask me, I think Mrs. Russell brainwashed her." She loathed Lily. Who knew what she'd told Anastasia to make her so blindly obedient? Maria had tried for years to teach Anastasia, but to no avail. The girl was ungrateful!
"Mrs. Russell..." Fabian repeated, then grinned.
Seeing his strange smile, she asked, "Why that weird smile?" She'd wanted to call him a fool, but feared offending him again.
"Hehehe..." Chuckling, he cleared his throat. "Do you know who's my biggest competitor for the project I'm bidding on?"
"Who?" Maria blinked, unfamiliar with the business world.
"La Beautรฉ Group! They've been expanding into pharmaceuticals for years. They're well-connected; few companies can compete." He sighed, shaking his head.
Maria frowned. "Didn't your brother-in-law promise you this project? What are you afraid of?"
"He did, but I'm worried things might change! That Alexander guy is brilliant. If he pulled strings, the project would be in shambles!" He genuinely worried about La Beautรฉ Group's interest in the project. No one could compete if they wanted it.
"Then why aren't you urging Cameron? You're still sitting here, giggling!" Maria was even more confused.
"Hahaha, you don't get it. I was worried, but not anymore!" He hummed, sipping his wine.
His snarky demeanor and lack of explanation infuriated Maria. She snatched his wine glass, growling, "Well, go on then!"
"Hey!" Fabian smacked his lips, drumming his fingers. "It's because Alexander's going abroad! My calculations suggest he won't return in time for the bid."
"Going abroad? Why? Why wouldn't he make it back in time?" She remained puzzled. Wasn't it normal for businesspeople to travel abroad? If La Beautรฉ Group valued the project, wouldn't Alexander prioritize it and return before the bidding?
