Chapter 1347
After reflecting on the numbness Lily's acupuncture had induced, Austin felt profoundly uncomfortable.
"Nonsense!" Dominic bellowed, kicking Austin. He struggled to maintain control. "Since ancient times? What kind of rubbish is that? Stop it! Are you from the Victorian era or something? Why didn't you just stay there and die?"
"Granduncle, how could you say that?" Austin protested, upset.
"What? I want to kick you!" Dominic retorted, lifting his leg.
Austin, ever vigilant, sprang to his feet, dodging the blow. Dominic's missed kick fueled his dissatisfaction. He vented his frustration by kicking a nearby glass before resuming his tirade. "I'm old, yet I'm not half as close-minded as you! Wake up and look at the times! Times have changed. Have you not seen how successful women can be? Your mother chooses to be a housewife; fine. But other women want careers. That's their choice too! How can you compare them? Should only men work and succeed? Tell me! What have you achieved? Besides curing a few patients using my name, I mean."
Before Austin could respond, Dominic pressed on, "Tell me something else! Something besides that!"
Fearing interruption, Austin blurted, "I've saved lives before that!"
"Saved lives?" Dominic scoffed. "Go to the hospital. Forget the doctors, but I bet any nurse there has saved more lives than you! What are you so proud of?" Austin fell silent under the barrage of criticism.
After a moment, he defended himself, "I didn't mean women shouldn't work, but they should focus on their specializations. Lily knows nothing about medicinal herbs, yet she's involved in the experiment! That's absurd!"
"Absurd? Then how did she succeed? Why didn't you? If you're so capable, why couldn't you do what she did?"
Austin was speechless.
"I bet you're jealous! You look down on women, but she's far more capable! You can't beat her, so you resort to gender, believing men are superior! That's the worst behavior!"
"Granduncle, I'm not..." Austin stammered, panic rising.
"She's lucky! I'm close to success too! I just started later and lack her research data. She wouldn't give it to me, so..."
"Does that data belong to you? Why should she give it to you? Enough! Stop this nonsense! Get out! I don't want to hear another word from someone who only finds fault! Get out of here!" Dominic picked up an object, ready to throw it.
Austin scrambled to hide, but Dominic hesitated, eyeing the teapot in his hand. Unable to part with it, he glared at Austin instead.
"What are you still doing here? Do you want me to have someone throw you out?"
"Granduncle, I'm sorry. I'll leave." Seeing the futility of his position, Austin retreated.
Once Austin was gone, Dominic set the teapot down, sighing and muttering, "That punk!"
