Chapter 616

Every word from Sofiaโ€™s mouth was sharp, aimed directly at Dan. It seemed the important place he once held in her heart was just a facade. After all, who would speak to their beloved in such a way? Yet Sofia did.

It made Stephanie, sitting on the nearby sofa, question whether Dan had ever truly entered Sofiaโ€™s heart. Stephanie had handled Chris so casually because there was no love involved, and thus, no binding ties. But when Dan died, Sofia had been clearly beside herself with grief.

โ€œYouโ€ฆโ€ Dan stammered.

โ€œMe what? Whether Iโ€™m good or bad, it doesnโ€™t involve you anymore, you bitch,โ€ Sofia retorted.

Dan was left speechless. Stephanie couldnโ€™t help but look at Sofia again as she repeatedly called Dan a โ€œbitch.โ€

The two of them were locked in a fierce argument over the phone. It started with name-calling and escalated to discussions about Sofia divorcing Richard.

Even sitting nearby, Stephanie could hear Danโ€™s voice coming through Sofiaโ€™s phoneโ€”it sounded commanding. Such a tone provoked Sofia, and she lashed out over the phone again. โ€œIt has nothing to do with you whether I divorce Richard or not. Youโ€™d better focus on your own affairs.โ€

โ€œWhat? Heโ€™s not a good person? But look at youโ€”a manipulative bitch pretending to have amnesia.โ€

Stephanieโ€™s lips twitched. โ€˜Well, thereโ€™s a new label: manipulative bitch. She looks really mad at Dan. Wait, did she just say Dan had amnesia? Is that guy really forgetful?โ€™

At first, when it was mentioned that Dan had amnesia, Stephanie was skeptical. She thought peopleโ€™s brains werenโ€™t that mysterious. If they were truly injured, theyโ€™d either be dead or recover. Amnesia could just be the perfect excuse for being a jerk.

Sofia was screaming hysterically at Dan until she noticed Stephanie looking at her in shock. Seeing Stephanieโ€™s still-flat stomach, Sofia paused. Then she got up fiercely and stomped upstairs, cursing all the way, โ€œYou stupid fake!โ€

โ€˜Now Dan has turned into a stupid fake,โ€™ Stephanie thought.

When Sebastian came back, he saw Stephanie sitting on the couch, dumbfounded. He walked over and affectionately ruffled her soft hair. โ€œWhat are you thinking about, so lost in thought?โ€ he asked, noticing she hadnโ€™t reacted when he walked in.

His voice snapped Stephanie out of the haze of Sofia calling Dan a โ€œbitch.โ€ Just before Sofia stormed upstairs, she had also heard her call Dan a โ€œfake.โ€ It was as if Sofia had thrown every insult she could think of at him.

โ€œYouโ€™re back.โ€ Stephanie grabbed Sebastianโ€™s wrist and nuzzled her chin into his warm palm. From the call, she had thought he wouldnโ€™t return until late.

Sebastian simply replied, โ€œYeah.โ€

Before he could say more, Stephanie hugged his arm, hanging onto him, and whispered in his ear, โ€œSofia and Dan got into a fight.โ€

โ€œHmm?โ€

โ€œFrom what it sounds like, Sofia and Richard actually got married, and Danโ€™s telling her to get a divorce,โ€ Stephanie explained, getting straight to the point.

When Richard came to pick up Sofia that day, Stephanie had doubted they could actually go through with a marriage. After all, everyone knew Sofiaโ€™s temperament all too well. But they really did get married.

As for Dan, the way he looked didnโ€™t suggest he had lost his memory at allโ€”would someone who truly forgot get so worked up over this?

Sebastian turned to face Stephanie, putting an arm around her still-slender waist. โ€œAnd then? Did she win the argument?โ€
