“Anyway, this has nothing to do with me. If you don’t believe me, I’ll call Dan right now,” Sofia said through gritted teeth as Richard turned around. Richard’s acting like this was all her responsibility, and Sofia couldn’t take it. She called Dan right in front of Richard. Sometimes, we need to clear things up to feel at ease. Sofia had never been wronged in her life. Richard’s attitude was infuriating. If Sofia didn’t clear this up today, she wouldn’t feel at ease.
The phone rang twice before it was answered. “Hello.” Dan’s voice came through. Hearing that familiar voice, a pang of hurt appeared in Sofia’s eyes. She thought, “That voice used to guide me on many things. How did it end up like this?” Sofia sniffled, hiding her feelings. “Did you take Richard’s stuff?”
Dan was speechless.
Sofia said, “You shameless guy! If you want to steal, do it, but don’t drag me into this. Go explain everything to Richard.”
Stephanie was shocked and thought, “That’s really harsh.”
Richard thought, ‘Sofia is so intense, cursing away what she holds dear. Such harsh words. No wonder Dan doesn’t want her. She’s such a tomboy, totally like Luca.’
Sofia put the phone on speaker. Seeing Dan on the line but not saying anything, she shouted, “Come on, speak up!”
Sofia thought, “This jerk is trying to blame the theft on me. Even if he’s the one I once cared about, I’ll never let that happen.”
Dan said, “Don’t act up. I’ll find you once I’m done, be good.”
Everyone present was shocked. That last word left Sofia so furious that she felt completely frozen.
When Stephanie heard that word, she couldn’t help but twitch her smile. She thought Dan’s tone had a hint of affection.
Richard’s face turned gloomy, and he looked at Sofia as if he wanted to devour her.
Sofia’s mind went blank for a moment, then she quickly reacted, unleashing a tirade of curses into the phone. “Dan, you jerk!”
With a sound of beep, the call was cut off. Sofia glanced at Richard, meeting his gloomy eyes, and at that moment, she felt completely shattered inside.
Sofia wanted to rush over to Dan and tear that jerk apart. She thought, ‘Damn it, what’s his deal? Dan’s words caused misunderstanding among them. It’s so unclear, but somehow, he’s pinned the entire theft on me, just like that.’
Sofia swallowed nervously. “Let me explain it.” She tried to keep her voice steady, feeling like she needed to explain things clearly to Richard.
Sofia thought there was no need to explain just now. But now things had become different. Dan suddenly said something that made the whole issue aim at Sofia.
Richard’s eyes, gloomy like obsidian, carried a cold smile as he mocked, “Isn’t this matter related to you?”
Sofia’s heart raced. “It has nothing to do with me.” She thought, ‘How could this possibly involve me? Just now, was Dan that affectionate tone with me? Dan must be blatantly accusing me of something.’
Sofia found it impossible to explain things to Richard right now. She took a deep breath and said, “Let’s have Stefi leave first.” Sofia sensed the dangerous vibe coming from Richard, aware that things might escalate any moment now.
Jesse, who hadn’t spoken until now, quickly took Stephanie’s hand to leave. “Ms. Giovanni, let’s go.”
Stephanie didn’t want to go. Sofia gave her a look. “Hurry up, and remember to find Sebastian.” Hearing this, Stephanie realized the situation was likely to get out of control.
If it were any other day, Richard would be here for Stephanie. But the lost file was important to him, and he couldn’t focus on Stephanie at the moment. So when Jesse led Stephanie past him, Richard didn’t stop them.
Everyone had left. Sofia looked at Richard and asked, “Now that we’ve got the file back, is it still useful?”
Richard felt confused.
Sofia said, “It’s been stolen for a couple of days now, and that jerk Dan must have seen its contents. I’m sure everything has been leaked, right?”
