Chapter 496

Their eyes met, and for a moment, it felt like Allison and Yanis were worlds apart even though they were standing right there. Allison ignored Yanis and turned her face away. But he gently turned it back, forcing their eyes to meet.

โ€œTell me, have you been seeing Xayvion again?โ€ he asked, his voice soft but insistent.

Allison squinted. โ€œDonโ€™t blame everything on Xayvion. Our problems have nothing to do with him.โ€

โ€œThen what do they have to do with?โ€ he demanded, his anger cutting through the silence.

Allison looked at Yanis without saying a word, her eyes piercing and quiet. He squeezed her wrist a little tighter. โ€œAllison,โ€ he said, his voice strained.

โ€œI just want some peace, and I donโ€™t want to see you right now, okay?โ€ Allisonโ€™s voice broke on the last sentence.

The tension around Yanis was palpable, and for the first time, Stephanie saw just how bad things had gotten between them. Stephanie had always seen Yanis as Allisonโ€™s protector. She couldnโ€™t help but wonder what had happened to change things between them.

Just as they were about to clash, Stephanie stepped in. โ€œYanis, Allisonโ€™s just hurt and not thinking straight. Can you give her some space?โ€

Yanis looked ready to explode, and Stephanie worried he might say or do something heโ€™d regret. But the word โ€œhurtโ€ seemed to bring him back. He glanced at Allison and slowly let go. Seeing this, Stephanie breathed a sigh of relief. She stepped forward and said, โ€œLet me talk to Allison alone, okay?โ€

It was the first time Stephanie had seen Allison push back against Yanis like this. Even when sheโ€™d talked about resisting the Lewis family, it was never about Yanis himself.

In the next moment, Stephanieโ€™s mind flashed back to an earlier time when sheโ€™d sensed a rift between Allison and Yanis. Her eyes narrowed with concern as she looked at Allison.

Yanis stood up and glanced at Stephanie. For a moment, his eyes cleared, but he didnโ€™t say anything. He just turned and walked down the hallway.

Stephanie turned to the nervous medical assistant. โ€œGet her to the ward,โ€ she said quietly.

Yanisโ€™s presence had been so intense that neither the director nor the medical assistant had dared to speak. Now that he was gone, the director quickly said, โ€œGet Ms. Pierce to the ward.โ€

With the Lewis family, everyone knew they had to be careful. Even if the rest of the Lewises didnโ€™t like Allison, they knew she was Yanisโ€™s favorite. Henry and Sebastian had come to the hospital with them, and they had left shortly after.

Now there were only Stephanie and Allison in the ward. She took Allisonโ€™s hand and asked softly, โ€œWhat happened between you and Yanis?โ€ Theyโ€™d been fine before, and the sudden change was surprising.

โ€œAnd whoโ€™s Lilith?โ€ she asked again. Earlier, Stephanie had overheard Yanis on the phone, saying he was going to hand Lilith over to the police.

Stephanie had never heard of anyone named Lilith in Long Harbor recently. All she knew was that Sharon had been busy trying to set Yanis up on blind dates lately.

โ€˜Could Lilith be one of Yanisโ€™s blind dates?โ€™ Stephanie couldnโ€™t believe it. โ€˜Sheโ€™s just met him and was already making a play for Allison? What does she think she is doing?โ€™
