Chapter 830
Graceโs heart instantly sank like a stone dropped into ice water. She had never imagined that she could have been one of their accomplices. What had she done? Just because of a few words from Tessa, sheโd made that call, and even insisted Lucas be the one to answer it. The more she thought about it, the more her mind cleared. Tessa hadnโt said it like that at all.
โLucas, is thereโฆ could there have been some misunderstanding here?โ
At some point, Graceโs tone toward Lucas had changed completely. Now, she even sounded a little cautious, almost humble. No matter how strong she was, she couldnโt accept the weight of this truth. Had she really almost destroyed her own daughter? Aurora, sitting beside him, could understand what her mother must be feeling, but now wasnโt the time to speak. Better to let Grace face the truth clearly, so she wouldnโt fall for Tessa and Julianโs lies again.
Lucas, however, found it laughable. Even now, Grace was still making excuses for Tessa. โMom, if you think itโs a misunderstanding, you can send someone to check with First Light Hospital in Rave.โ Lucasโs gaze darkened. โIโm sure theyโll have the answers weโre looking for. And Iโll send the analysis report of the syringe contents to your email.โ
Lucas had always been known for his swift and decisive approach. After saying that, he handed the phone back to Aurora. Heโd said everything that needed to be said. Graceโs attempt to defend Tessa left him bitterly disappointed. He couldnโt understand it. They were both her daughters. What was the point of favoring one over the other? When someone did wrong, they should be held accountable.
Everything was already laid out in plain sight. If she still refused to admit it, then there was only one explanation โ Grace was truly blind. Her feelings for Tessa ran far too deep. He could never wake someone who was pretending to be asleep.
Holding the phone, Auroraโs expression had lost the emotional trace it carried at the start, especially after hearing everything Lucas had said. She became even more convinced that Tessa and Julian hadnโt been punished nearly enough. She wanted to see them dragged down, bit by bit, into the mud, falling from that pedestal they thought they owned.
โMom, everything you wanted to know, youโve heard now.โ Auroraโs voice was calm, giving nothing away. โIf thereโs nothing else, Iโll hang up.โ
She knew Grace would need time to process this. Anyone would be overwhelmed by so many truths thrown at them all at once, let alone Grace, who had always cherished her eldest daughter. She must have truly believed Tessa would never do such a thing.
โIโฆ Aurora, I need time to thinkโฆโ
Hearing her daughterโs voice, Grace suddenly felt unsteady inside. There were a thousand things she wanted to say, but once the words reached her lips, they vanished. She closed her eyes briefly and made up her mind to investigate this thoroughly. She couldnโt let anyone be wrongly accused.
โDonโt worry. Iโll get to the bottom of this.โ Grace paused, then continued, โIf it really was your sisterโฆ if it really was Tessa, I promise I wonโt turn a blind eye.โ
โAlright. Got it.โ
Aurora wasnโt the least bit surprised by her motherโs response.
