Chapter 829

Heโ€™d nearly given someone else another opening to strike.

Aurora could only soothe Megan in a gentle voice. โ€œAlright, calm down, donโ€™t get so worked up. Besides, Iโ€™m fine now, arenโ€™t I? Iโ€™m sitting here chatting with you, safe and sound.โ€

Megan huffed coldly, still clearly upset. โ€œThatโ€™s only because youโ€™re lucky! If it werenโ€™t for your willpower, who knows? He mightโ€™ve gotten that injection into you, and then what? You couldโ€™ve ended up in a coma again!โ€

Auroraโ€™s smile faded slightly. She had no way to argue with Meganโ€™s words because everything she said was true. If she hadnโ€™t fought back, the outcome would have been painfully obvious. Or worse, what if she had woken up just a little later? The thought made Aurora shiver, unable to summon the courage to imagine what could have followed.

Lucas, meanwhile, waited patiently while Megan vented. He knew that once she got it all out, there wouldnโ€™t be much left for him to explain. As for the glare Leonard had thrown at him earlierโ€“he didnโ€™t see it at all. And even if he had, he wouldnโ€™t have cared. Leonard was just jealous, plain and simple. There was nothing else worth discussing. No matter how jealous Leonard got, it would all be pointless in the end. He couldnโ€™t change the fact that Lucas was Auroraโ€™s legal husband. They were the ones whose names were printed on the same household registration.

Leonard knew he was being a little emotional, but after learning the full story, how could he not be angry? It was clearly Lucasโ€™s negligence that left Aurora alone in that hospital room. And to think, heโ€™d made such a scene about driving them away back then! And then what? The more Leonard thought about it, the more ridiculous Lucasโ€™ behavior seemed.

Before he could say anything, Graceโ€™s voice came through the phone. โ€œSo that syringeโ€ฆ it was meant to knock her unconscious, wasnโ€™t it?โ€

No one knew how much strength it took for Grace to keep her temper in check as she said those words. She had never imagined Julian would actually do something like that. How dare he? Aurora was her daughter. And yet she had suffered all of this alone, without anyone telling her a wordโ€ฆ

Lucas didnโ€™t hesitate as he answered, โ€œYes, Mom. Thatโ€™s exactly what it was. And Iโ€™m not trying to make excuses for myself.โ€

The moment he said that, everyone turned to look at him, unsure what he meant. Why bring that up all of a sudden? Werenโ€™t they talking about the syringe?

โ€œWhat do you mean?โ€ Grace was just as confusedโ€“why the sudden shift in tone?

โ€œBecause when Julian entered the room, I wasnโ€™t there,โ€ Lucas said, pausing before continuing, โ€œMom, during that time, I was using Tessaโ€™s phone to call you.โ€

The room instantly erupted in shock. No one had expected that.

Grace was stunned, her lips trembling slightly. โ€œIsโ€ฆ is that true?โ€

โ€œMom, I have no reason to lie to you.โ€ Lucasโ€™ voice was heavy, clearly filled with remorse. โ€œIโ€™ve been staying in the room every single day, keeping watch by Auroraโ€™s bedside. If it hadnโ€™t been for that call on Tessaโ€™s phone, I wouldnโ€™t have left. I was just worried it might disturb Aurora."
