She even felt, in some way, that this was how things were always meant to unfold.

After all, she’d always looked at Tessa through rose-colored lenses. Now that those illusions had shattered and the truth had broken through, it was only natural that she’d struggle to accept it.

Thinking that, Aurora said nothing more. She noticed Grace had gone silent on the other end of the line, so she simply ended the call. There was no point in dragging it out any longer. What good would it do for the two of them to keep holding the phone in silence? It would only waste time.

On Grace’s side, she stared at the screen, unable to settle her thoughts. She watched as it dimmed, then went black, leaving only the reflection of her stunned expression. Gone was the confident, commanding woman she was known to be. Her eyes seemed weighed down with years. She sat there, dazed, wondering when everything had started to unravel like this.

Nothing was going the way she’d imagined. In fact, it was all veering farther and farther off course. The thought made her heart ache. She had always hated the feeling of losing control. And now, more than ever, she didn’t know how to get it back. So much had already slipped beyond her reach. And just like that, Grace was left with a rising sense of helplessness in her chest. But she didn’t know how to deal with all of it either. All she could do was take it one step at a time and follow her heart in the end. There were things in life that couldn’t be solved through force, just like with love, or the person meant to be your partner.

After everything that had happened, Grace had come to understand that. Right now, what mattered most was getting to the bottom of it. She had to find out whether Tessa and Julian were truly involved in all of this. And if they were–then she wouldn’t let them off so easily. That was her daughter they dared to hurt. Did they think she was already dead?

Arnold noticed the fleeting darkness in Grace’s expression and felt a chill in his chest. So, was Grace finally done tolerating everything?

Chapter 831

He’d just heard Aurora describe everything she went through, and even he had felt frightened. How could someone like Julian treat her that way? He had assumed her condition was just a mysterious illness, but after hearing what Lucas said, it clearly wasn’t that at all. Who could stay calm after hearing something like that? It was almost impossible to believe.

“Madam, then shall we…” Arnold hesitated, unsure how to proceed without further instruction. After all, in this household, Grace’s word was final.

“Send someone to the hospital. Find out if it really happened.” Arnold nodded without hesitation. He had just reached the door when Grace called him back.

“Wait a moment.”

He quickly turned around. “Yes, Madam?”

“Is there something else I need to know?”

“Yes.” Grace nodded. “Make sure this is done quietly. No one can know about it.”

She had a nagging feeling that things weren’t as simple as they seemed, especially after learning that Julian used the syringe and that it was Tessa who had urged her to make that phone call.

With those two pieces fitting together, Grace couldn’t shake the sense that something larger and hidden was at play.
