Chapter 798
Lucas knew there was no point in saying more. Dragging it out wouldn’t change anything. Looking at Aurora now, it was obvious her mind was made up. If he kept trying to stop her, he’d only come off as unreasonable. He had said before that he would give her freedom. She had always been free, not some bird locked in a cage. That was something he’d told her a long time ago. And now, that promise still stood.
Since Aurora had made up her mind, what he needed to do was pave the road ahead for her, not stand in her way. If he really became an obstacle to her, then how would he be any different from other men? If he only knew how to hold back the woman he loved, and couldn’t improve himself, what was the point of it all?
Lucas looked at her seriously. “Alright, I understand. Don’t worry, I’ll go ask the doctor how to get your discharge arranged. You don’t need to rush.”
Seeing that Lucas didn’t try to stop her anymore, Aurora felt genuinely comforted. She had expected to spend more time convincing him. But in the end, it wasn’t necessary at all. In fact, she even felt a bit unaccustomed to it. After all, when she had been with Joseph, he was an extremely controlling man. No matter the situation, he always put himself first. A lot of people could feel that about him. Let alone Aurora–she could see it clearly from the start. So, after enduring three years of torment, Aurora instinctively lumped Lucas in with that same kind of man. She just hadn’t expected this at all.
Before she even had to put in the effort to explain herself, Lucas had already agreed without hesitation. Not a single argument or single word wasted. Even she was completely stunned. Why was this happening?
Lucas saw the way Aurora’s mouth parted slightly in surprise, still looking a little shocked. He couldn’t help but chuckle. “What’s wrong? I’m letting you go home–aren’t you happy about that?”
Aurora shook her head. “I’m just… surprised.” Her voice was a little quiet. Because at first, she really thought she’d have to argue her way through it. Yet somehow, everything had gone so smoothly.
Hearing that, Lucas immediately understood what she meant. He straightened slightly, looked at her, and said, “Don’t worry. I’m not the domineering type. Sure, I want to keep you close, to have you stay home and not go anywhere.”
At those words, Aurora’s fingers instinctively curled in. Lucas hadn’t noticed it at first, but then he caught the nervous look on her face. So, he gripped her hand firmly and said with conviction, “But trust me, I’ll respect your choices. Everyone is their own person. I have no right to demand anything from you. What matters is what you choose to do for yourself."
Aurora froze on the spot. She looked up at him in a daze, not knowing how to react. She even started to wonder–was Lucas really telling the truth just now? Could someone truly think that way? Then what kind of people had she dealt with before?
At that thought, Aurora’s eyes welled up with tears.
