“Okay, I got it.”

Before Lucas could say anything, she threw her arms around him.

She hugged him tightly, refusing to let go.

A man who loved her, respected her, and had even saved her life when she was a child—with all those qualities stacked together, what more could she possibly ask for?

Aurora silently made a promise to herself: as long as Lucas never gave up on her, she would never walk away.

“Thank you for understanding, Lucas.”

He returned her hug and said, “Alright, no need for the polite words. I just don’t want you to overwork yourself.

“But I also understand you have your own path to follow.

“Just promise me you’ll take care of yourself and not make me worry, okay?”

Aurora nodded. “Don’t worry.”

Once the two of them had come to an agreement, Lucas finally agreed to let her go and give it her all.

He then remembered the phone call from earlier on the balcony and didn’t hide anything–he told her directly.

“The call just now was from the police station. It was about Julian.”

Aurora was chewing and looked a little surprised.

Lucas had really just told her that outright?

She assumed, since the call involved someone else, he would keep it vague.

But Lucas didn’t hold anything back.

“Oh? And then?”

Honestly, Aurora was still unsure if it was really okay for him to bring it up so openly.

Lucas saw the hesitation on her face and gently held her hand. “You and I are a team–there’s nothing to hide. I only stepped out to answer the call because I didn’t want it to ruin your appetite."

Aurora’s heart warmed.

So, this was what it felt like to be truly cared for.

She didn’t need to overthink everything because someone had already considered it all for her and included her in every step. Aurora finally remembered Julian at the police station and asked, half–reluctantly, “Did the police say anything about him?”

“Of course they did.”

Lucas raised an eyebrow, then glanced at the beef on her fork and opened his mouth wide, hinting he wanted a bite too.

Seeing Lucas so relaxed, Aurora couldn’t help but feel lighter herself.

Even when they were together before, things had never been this easy between them.

They’d never interacted like this.

Now, for the first time, she truly felt how good it was.

It was more relaxed and joyful than any time before.

Aurora found herself really liking this kind of closeness.

Looking at Lucas’ slightly parted lips, her heart softened.

Without hesitation, she brought the beef on her chopsticks to his mouth.

Lucas was caught off guard.

He’d only meant to tease her a little.

But he never imagined she’d really feed it to him.

That gesture filled him with joy.

Watching the whole thing, Aurora smiled and asked, “Is it good?”
