At this point, the outcome was already obvious. No matter what Julian said later, it wouldn’t change a thing. Everyone was just waiting here for the test results to come back.

Now, Jason was even more eager than Julian himself. It was like forcing silence on someone’s lips while their thoughts ran wild—no action could truly restrain what stirred in the mind. There was simply no other way around it.

As time dragged on, both men grew more anxious. Even Julian started to lose that edge of panic, replaced by growing impatience. He began silently praying, hoping the people here were complete fools who couldn’t figure out what the substance was.

He repeated that wish over and over in his head until he finally started to feel calmer. But just as he was about to breathe a sigh of relief, he heard a voice from inside say, “The results are ready.”

Both Julian and Jason turned to look at the same time. Only, they were looking for very different reasons. One with fear and dread. The other with anticipation.

Jason was genuinely thrilled. He had a strong feeling that this might finally explain why Aurora had been unconscious for so long. This substance could give him the answer. And he could finally give Lucas an explanation too. More importantly, it would restore his reputation in the medical field. No more of the second-guessing and self-doubt that had haunted him lately. Even Lucas had started to question him, and Jason had begun questioning his own abilities. They hadn’t found anything back in Aurora’s country, and even after switching to a whole new set of equipment overseas, the results were still frustratingly vague.

That whole ordeal had left him frustrated for weeks. But now, he finally felt like the answer was within reach. Meanwhile, Julian could only break out in a cold sweat for himself. So, what was he supposed to do now? He knew exactly what that drug was.

Otherwise, how could Aurora have stayed unconscious for so long? It was all because of that single vial. The dosage wasn’t large, but the effect was potent. Now that he’d been caught, Julian felt sick to his stomach. He was the one getting dragged down for this, so where was Tessa now? If it hadn’t been for her, would he even be here? Wasn’t it better to just stay home with Lily and avoid all of this?

He’d always been the one holding Tessa up, and in the end, even lifting her to the sky hadn’t amounted to anything. Suddenly, he remembered that Tessa had never actually agreed to marry him. All along, he’d just been blinded by her. Now, looking at the pathetic state he was in, and thinking about her again, a deep bitterness settled in his chest.

Before he could say anything, a familiar female voice rang out beside him. “What? The results are out already?” “Then hurry and show us! What’s going on?”

Hearing that voice, Julian couldn’t even describe how he felt. He turned his head and saw Tessa–also being held by two people, but her hands hadn’t stopped moving. Watching her so worked up, a bad feeling crept into Julian’s chest. He lowered his voice and asked, “What are you doing? Don’t forget, we’re in this together.” He finished his threat and finally let out a slow breath.
