Listen to this chapter:

He hoped that, for once, Tessa would use her head and stop being so reckless. At a time like this, blurting things out would be nothing short of brainless. But Tessa merely shot Julian a dismissive glance, her tone full of disdain. โ€œWeโ€™re just discussing facts here.

โ€œDonโ€™t think that just because the patient happens to be my sister, you can use that to cozy up to me. Iโ€™m standing with reason, not family.โ€ She looked every bit the picture of moral righteousness, calm and composed. Even Jason was caught off guard by her performance. He wasnโ€™t quite sure what to make of the situation anymore. Tessa turned to him and pressed, โ€œDoctor, what are you waiting for? Arenโ€™t you going to look at the results?

โ€œAnd let me warn you, my sister just woke up. Donโ€™t take advantage of her just because sheโ€™s nice.โ€ She put on the act of a concerned, protective sister. But this display left Julian completely confused. A sinking feeling started to grow in his gut, heavier by the second. โ€œTessa, what the hell are you doing!โ€ He shouted, voice sharp with panic. โ€œYouโ€™d better explain what you mean!โ€ Tessa shook off the two people holding her, folded her arms, and dropped the pretense. โ€œIt means nothing. Iโ€™m just siding with the truth, thatโ€™s all." She put on an innocent look. โ€œBesides, Iโ€™m only curious about the test result. Thatโ€™s it. โ€œI havenโ€™t done anything else.โ€ She shrugged, as if genuinely wronged. Seeing this, Julian felt a chill spread through him. It hit him all at once.

This time, he had lost. And heโ€™d lost to Tessa. He shouldโ€™ve seen through this woman long ago, not waited until now to finally understand. Why hadnโ€™t he realized it sooner? Julian collapsed into a chair, his back feeling as if it carried a thousand pounds. But Jason didnโ€™t have the time to care about any of that. He took the lab report straight from the doctorโ€™s hands. When he read the results, his eyes widened in shock. โ€œI canโ€™t believe something like this actually existsโ€ฆโ€ Today had truly opened his eyes. It was the first time he had come across anything like it. Tessaโ€™s gaze flickered.

Though she felt a twinge of guilt, she still forced herself to ask calmly, โ€œDoctor, what exactly is in that compound? Thereโ€™s nothing dangerous in it, right? Sheโ€™s my only sister, you have to take this seriously.โ€ Jason folded the report and gave both Tessa and the slumped Julian a long, meaningful look. It was clear neither of them had good intentions, especially the woman standing in front of him. Her smile looked innocent, but something about it didnโ€™t sit right with Jason. In fact, it felt downright fake, as if he were seeing her true color for the first time. And Tessa really was that kind of person. No matter how big or small the situation, the one thing she could never allow was for others to read her emotions. She had to stay composed. As long as she stayed calm, her opponent would never spot her weakness. And in that way, she remained untouchable. โ€œIโ€™ll need to verify the results further,โ€ Jason said, eyes fixed on her faceโ€“even though she masked it perfectly.
