Tessa rubbed her arms, feeling a strange chill.

Aurora didn’t pay her any attention.

She looked at the foreign doctor and said, “Doctor, please have this tested.”

Before Julian could speak, Aurora cut in, “Also, if anyone has doubts about the results, or suspects us of tampering, they can tag along. And don’t forget to bring the police along as well.”

Aurora didn’t bother hiding her disdain. “Some people are like sewer rats–clingy, hard to shake off, and bound to leave a stench.”

Julian’s face darkened.

It was obvious she was talking about him.

If he still couldn’t tell, he really had no brain.

Aurora glanced down at him with a smile, but her eyes remained cold. “So, Mr. Hayes, my dear future brother-in-law, how about joining the doctors to check those results?”

Julian flinched at her words.

There was something about her smile that made his skin crawl.

Given her usual temperament, he had no doubt she’d already planned to deal with him long ago.

Now that she was smiling like that, Julian couldn’t shake the unease crawling up his spine.

Tessa grew irritated watching him freeze up.

Was this man completely useless? Even now, he still didn’t know what to do?

He was always like this–timid, weak, and hopeless.

Just standing there made him seem unreliable.

Despite Julian’s reluctance, Lucas’ men took him along to the lab for testing.

There was no room for error. If Julian ran, the test would be meaningless.

Lucas understood this well, which was why he had several men watching him.

Julian was slippery like an eel–once he got away, he’d be a pain to track down again.

They were all adults.

It was time for him to take responsibility for what he’d done.

So, what was the rush?

Tessa watched as Julian followed the doctors out, and she wanted to slip away too.

But Aurora spoke up, stopping her in her tracks. “Why do you look so worried, my dear sister?”

“I’m not. What are you talking about, sis?”

Tessa turned around, quickly forcing her stiff expression back into something more composed.

She knew there was something off about the look on her face.

If she didn’t fix it fast, Aurora would definitely pick up on it.

Tessa understood her too well.

Aurora had always been sharp.

That was exactly why Tessa felt her time with the company was over now that Aurora was awake.

Seeing how tense Tessa looked, Aurora found it laughable.

Julian wouldn’t have made it into this room without her help.

That much was obvious.

So, what was she trying to act innocent for?

Still, Aurora kept up the act, pretending everything between them was perfectly cordial.

“Tell me, dear sister, what are you so afraid of?”

Tessa flinched, then rushed to defend herself. “I’m not afraid of anything. What are you implying? Is this really how you’re going to speak to your sister the moment you wake up?”

Aurora tilted her head, her tone light. “Of course not. I just thought–since you came all this way…”
