Chapter 778
โNow that Iโm awake, why do you look anything but happy for me, dear sister?โ
Tessa didnโt even know how to respond.
โIโฆ I have something to take care of.โ
She thought of Julian and quickly grabbed the excuse.
โYou saw it yourselfโhe was taken away by your man, wasnโt he? No matter what he did wrong, heโs still my fiancรฉ.โ
She gave a half-hearted chuckle. โI should go check on him.โ
Aurora cut in, her voice calm but sharp. โSo, youโre admitting then that whatever Julian did has something to do with you too, right?โ
Tessa froze in place.
She met Auroraโs eyes, and the mocking smile on her face made her grind her teeth.
This was exactly the kind of person Aurora was, always appearing soft and gentle on the outside.
But with that same face, she could grind someone into the dirt so thoroughly theyโd never get up again.
And it was that prideful air that Tessa hated the most.
That was why sheโd always wanted to rip off Auroraโs fake mask and stomp it into the ground.
Only then would people finally see through that holier-than-thou act, instead of being fooled by it like they were now.
Aurora had clearly baited her, and with so many people still in the room, there was no way Tessa could walk away clean.
Her face darkened, and she was forced to admit it.
โYeah, thatโs what I meant. But Iโฆโ
Before she could finish, Aurora interrupted.
โItโs fine. As long as everyone gets the message, thatโs enough.โ
Aurora smiled. โI just hope you wonโt regret what you said later.โ
Seeing her like that made Tessa feel a heavy weight pressing down on her chest.
There was a vague sense of unease she couldnโt quite place.
But now that Aurora was awake, all she could do was take things one step at a time.
What came next was out of her hands and certainly beyond her control.
On top of that, she never could read Aurora, let alone predict what she might do.
So, her best bet for now was to stay still and ride out the storm.
Tessa swallowed hard and asked awkwardly, โSo what exactly do you mean by that?โ
โNothing much.โ
Aurora smiled and turned to Lucas. โAlright, Lukey, take my dear sister to the testing center too.โ
Tessaโs eyes widened in shock.
Aurora was tying her to Julianโs mess?
Which meant whatever he was guilty of would fall on her as well?
The thought made Tessa feel sick.
What was Aurora playing at?
But before she could get a word in, Lucasโ people stepped forward and escorted her away without hesitation.
Soon after, the others in the room began filing out as well.
In the blink of an eye, only Aurora and Lucas were left.
They stared at each other, and Lucas kept a firm grip on her hand, unwilling to let go for even a second.
He pulled her into his arms and nuzzled against the crook of her neck.
โAurora, thank you.โ
Hearing that, Aurora was momentarily caught off guard.
