Chapter 219: Shut Up
โQuiet!โ The officer questioned, โDid you have any accomplices this time?โ
At the mention of this, Yolandaโs eyes flickered with a trace of hesitation. โI had no accomplices! Summer has ignored me for three years; she was heartless and cruel. I was furious after being released from prison. Thatโs the only reason I did it!โ
Summer cast her a cold glance before following the officer into the adjacent room for questioning. The officer seemed to have already heard plenty of Yolandaโs sob stories. Looking at Summerโs indifferent expression, he asked, โSheโs your mother?โ
โNo.โ
โShe says she raised you for twenty years.โ
โI suppose.โ
โSo you lived with her for twenty years?โ
โI suppose.โ
The officer frowned, assuming this was just a family dispute between mother and daughter. โWould you consider a reconciliation?โ
Summerโs response was cold. โNo.โ
โMs. Stewart, Yolanda has cancer. If this is just a family conflict, I suggest you reconsider. You might regret this in the future.โ
Upon hearing that, Summerโs gaze turned sharp as a blade as she stared at the officer. Then, she spoke in a calm, clear voice, โFirst, sheโs not my biological mother; sheโs the one who deliberately switched the babies at birth. Second, when she attacked me, she accused me of stealing Margaretโs place; I have reason to believe Margaret was her accomplice. And lastly, she stabbed Trevor Larson, the Larson Groupโs son.โ
The officerโs brows knitted together, finally taking the case seriously. โUnderstood, Ms. Stewart. Thank you for your cooperation today.โ
After leaving the police station, Summer buried herself in work, throwing herself into it relentlessly. The problem wasnโt just that she was working herself to the bone; she dragged the entire Stewart Group along with her. Employees were constantly staying late for endless meetings. The whole company was filled with complaints. No one understood what had gotten into Summer. She had already gone through the transition period of taking over, yet suddenly, it felt like the Stewart Group was back in an era of grueling hardship.
That day, Summer was in the middle of a meeting when she received a message from Bethany. โSummer, my brother is doing much better. Are you free to come see him?โ
At the final meeting of the day, Summer closed her folder and announced, โEveryone gets off work on time today.โ
The moment those words left her mouth, a wave of relief washed over the room. For the first time in a long while, they wouldnโt have to see the moon before heading home.
In the hospital room, lying in bed, Trevor asked Bethany, โDid you tell her?โ
Bethany smirked. If he hadnโt been so badly injured this time, she wouldnโt have even bothered helping him.
Chapter 219: Shut Up
The woman was too heartless. He had taken that knife for her.
Bethany teased, โIf you knew this would happen, you shouldโve thought twice before treating her that way.โ
Trevorโs patience wore thin. โShut up.โ
โAs if I want to be here taking care of you. With your personality, only Summer wouldโve been foolish enough to chase after you back then.โ
Trevorโs expression darkened. Just then, a knock sounded at the door. โCome in,โ Trevor called.
The moment Summer stepped inside, the dim light in Trevorโs eyes thickened with sudden brightness.
Bethany was stunned. โSummer, you actually came?โ
Trevor coughed lightly and shot Bethany a cold look. โArenโt you leaving?โ
Bethany pouted. Typical. The moment Summer showed up, he forgot all about his own sister.
Just because she came didnโt mean anything.
โSummer, I just remembered I have something to do. Iโll get going.โ With that, Bethany dashed out of the room, shutting the door behind her. Trevorโs gaze roamed over Summer, drinking in the sight of her. Summerโs expression shifted slightly. Her eyes landed on the thick layers of bandages wrapped around his chest.
After a pause, she spoke. โThank you for taking that knife for me.โ
Trevorโs voice was gentle. โSummer, as long as youโre okay, thatโs all that matters.โ
โSit.โ
Summer remained standing. โNo need. I have things to do soon.โ
โSummer, do you still hate me?โ Trevorโs gaze was unwavering, locking onto her. โDoes this at least make up for some of the things I did wrong in the past?โ
Summer lowered her eyes. โRegardless of who saved me, Iโd be grateful. Thatโs all there is to it.โ
A flicker of disappointment crossed Trevorโs eyes.
โRest well. Iโll get going.โ As she turned and reached the door, Trevor couldnโt help but ask, โSummer, will you come back tomorrow?โ
