Chapter 220: Come Back

Summer's steps faltered for a moment, but she didn’t answer. She shut the door behind her and left. As she walked, a wave of discomfort suddenly washed over her. Her vision blurred, and she collapsed against the wall before losing consciousness.

When she woke up, she found herself lying in a hospital bed. A doctor stood beside her. “Miss, you’re five weeks pregnant. You’ve been overworked and malnourished lately, which caused you to faint.”

Summer blinked, her mind still dazed, unable to process what she just heard. “What did you say?”

The doctor repeated, “Miss, your body is very weak right now. During the first three months of pregnancy, you need to rest properly, or there’s a high risk of miscarriage.”

It took a moment for Summer to fully grasp what the doctor was saying. Pregnant? Boom! It was like a bomb went off in her mind, shaking her to the core.

How could this be? She abruptly sat up, staring at the doctor as if seeking one last confirmation. Her voice was anxious. “Doctor, are you sure? Can you check again? There’s no way I could be pregnant.”

The doctor replied, “You were examined twice when you fainted. Here’s the ultrasound. It confirms your pregnancy.”

The doctor handed her a black-and-white ultrasound scan. Summer stared at it for a long moment before slowly taking it. She looked at the image, then at her stomach, still unable to believe it.

But she and Fraser had already broken up. The thought made her clench her hands tightly, her face growing even paler. This unexpected situation caught her completely off guard. Her mind was a mess, completely at a loss for what to do.

“The baby’s father… where is he? You’ll need regular checkups, and for safety reasons, you should stay in the hospital for a few days. Have the baby’s father come handle the admission process.”

Summer bit her lip and asked, “Doctor, can I not keep this baby?”

The doctor finally took a closer look at the woman sitting on the hospital bed. She was strikingly beautiful, with bright eyes and delicate features, but her face was too pale. Her hands were clenched tightly, and her thin shoulders made her look pitiful.

“Having a baby is a blessing. You should cherish it. Many people dream of having a child but can’t.”

Hearing that, Summer’s face turned even whiter. It looked as if she might collapse at any moment. Seeing her like this, the doctor couldn’t help but feel a little sorry for her. The doctor immediately assumed Summer must be a single mother or had been abandoned by a heartless man. “If you… decide to terminate the pregnancy, you need to make the decision soon. After three months, the procedure will be much more harmful to your body.”

After the doctor left, Summer got out of bed and stumbled out of the hospital. The glaring sunlight outside made her feel even colder inside. This baby couldn’t have come at a worse time.

Just then, her phone rang. It rang for a long time before she finally pulled it out. It was Yvette. Summer answered. Yvette’s urgent voice came through. “Summer, you need to come over right now.”

Summer’s voice was hollow. “What’s wrong?”

This place frequently hosted extravagant banquets. The guests who attended were all wealthy elites, high-society ladies, or top-tier celebrities. A long red carpet stretched from the entrance into the grand hall, lined with rows of luxury sports cars.

Yvette, who was already waiting at the entrance, rushed over the moment she saw Summer. Summer took one look at Yvette’s high-end black slip dress and sparkling crystal heels and immediately knew she was attending a banquet. However, she had no idea why Yvette suddenly called her here.

She asked, “What’s going on?”

Yvette’s face was filled with anger. “Do you know who’s inside? Fraser! Your boyfriend!”

The mention of his name hit Summer like a sudden blow. Her heart clenched as she thought of her pregnancy.

“Tonight is the Havenbrook charity gala. Fraser is here as an honored guest, and the one accompanying him is none other than the Oscar-winning actress Leann Burke, who’s been insanely popular lately. Summer, isn’t he still your boyfriend? How can he be so shameless? He’s with another woman, and everyone inside is saying how perfect they look together. I’m so furious!”

Summer was still in a daze. Before she could react, Yvette grabbed her hand and pulled her inside. The banquet hall was buzzing with lively chatter. Servers weaved through the crowd, carrying trays of cocktails.
