Chapter 930
That one line from the woman on the phone made Ronโs legs tremble. He immediately reached for the phone on his desk, fumbling to cover things up. โSorry, I dialed the wrong number. This isnโt Haydenโs phone.โ
โNope!โ Keira shut down his excuse before he could even finish.
Ronโs mouth twitched as he looked at her nervously. He hesitated before speaking to the person on the other end of the line. โWho are you? How did you get this phone? Did you steal it or find it?โ
He was trying so hard to smooth things over, even concocting an excuse for the person on the other side. But the woman wasnโt having it. She didnโt play along. โI didnโt steal it or find it. Itโs in my hand. What about it? Is that a problem?โ
โOf course itโs a problem! You canโt just take someone elseโs phone like that. And let me warn you, heโs a married man! If his wife hears about this, she might misunderstand,โ Ron blurted, his eyes darting back and forth to gauge Keiraโs reaction.
โOh? His wifeโs that petty? Doesnโt seem to match Haydenโs style,โ the woman retorted, casually dismissing Keira.
Ron was sweating bullets now. Keira smiled faintly and cut in, โMiss Drago, youโre quite a match for him, especially since your families arranged it. A perfect pair.โ
The voice belonged to Yara. Keira recognized her the moment she spoke her first sentence. She hadnโt heard anything about her for a while, and yet here she was, right by Haydenโs side.
โMiss Kay, youโre here too?โ Yara didnโt sound surprised at all. There wasnโt even a hint of panic, just her usual cheerful tone.
โThatโs right,โ Keira replied, keeping her voice light. โIs Hayden in the shower or getting dressed?โ
Ron frantically tried to mediate. โLetโs not joke around like that. Everyone here is just friends, nothing more.โ
Before he could finish, Yaraโs voice came through the phone again, as calm as ever. โHeโsโฆ getting dressed.โ
That was the last straw for Ron. He couldnโt sit still any longer and lunged to grab the phone. โFor heavenโs sake, can you stop messing around? Youโre going to get someone killed!โ
โIโm just telling the truth. Donโt believe me? Letโs ask Hayden. You can hear for yourself,โ Yara said, her voice dripping with amusement. Then she called out, โHayden, are you done getting dressed? Ron is looking for you.โ
โAlmost. What does he want?โ Haydenโs voice came through, calm and casual.
Ron was practically white as a sheet, his eyes now fixed squarely on Keiraโs face, studying her every reaction.
โYara, stop playing games! Turn the camera toward Hayden. I need to see if heโs wearing pants or a shirt,โ Ron demanded, his panic barely concealed.
โAnd who says youโre allowed to look?โ Yara deflected smoothly, refusing to cooperate.
Keira stood up at that moment without a word and headed for the door. Ron scrambled after her, all the while shouting at Yara through the phone. โYouโre really going too far! Just wait and see how Hayden deals with me later.โ
โOh, Iโll be waiting. Iโm hanging up now. I need to change too,โ Yara replied with an even more suggestive tone before ending the call.
Ron looked ready to smash the phone into pieces. He blocked Keiraโs path at the door, desperation written all over his face. โKeira, I swear, itโs not what you think. Yara was just messing with us!โ
โOh,โ Keira replied blandly, not breaking stride.
โDonโt just say โohโ! Iโm serious! I swear, if Iโm lying, Iโll never find a wife in this lifetime. Howโs that?โ he pleaded, looking genuinely distressed.
It seemed like swearing on spouses had become the go-to for everything latelyโcheap and overused.
โOh,โ Keira said again, her tone unchanged.
Ron was on the verge of a meltdown. โDonโt misunderstand Hayden! Iโll have him explain everything to you!โ
โOh.โ
By now, sweat was dripping from Ronโs forehead and nose. โI might as well jump from this twentieth floor and end it all!โ
โWant me to open the window for you?โ Keira offered, her tone deadpan.
Her words rendered him speechless, leaving him frozen in place.
