Chapter 930

That one line from the woman on the phone made Ronโ€™s legs tremble. He immediately reached for the phone on his desk, fumbling to cover things up. โ€œSorry, I dialed the wrong number. This isnโ€™t Haydenโ€™s phone.โ€

โ€œNope!โ€ Keira shut down his excuse before he could even finish.

Ronโ€™s mouth twitched as he looked at her nervously. He hesitated before speaking to the person on the other end of the line. โ€œWho are you? How did you get this phone? Did you steal it or find it?โ€

He was trying so hard to smooth things over, even concocting an excuse for the person on the other side. But the woman wasnโ€™t having it. She didnโ€™t play along. โ€œI didnโ€™t steal it or find it. Itโ€™s in my hand. What about it? Is that a problem?โ€

โ€œOf course itโ€™s a problem! You canโ€™t just take someone elseโ€™s phone like that. And let me warn you, heโ€™s a married man! If his wife hears about this, she might misunderstand,โ€ Ron blurted, his eyes darting back and forth to gauge Keiraโ€™s reaction.

โ€œOh? His wifeโ€™s that petty? Doesnโ€™t seem to match Haydenโ€™s style,โ€ the woman retorted, casually dismissing Keira.

Ron was sweating bullets now. Keira smiled faintly and cut in, โ€œMiss Drago, youโ€™re quite a match for him, especially since your families arranged it. A perfect pair.โ€

The voice belonged to Yara. Keira recognized her the moment she spoke her first sentence. She hadnโ€™t heard anything about her for a while, and yet here she was, right by Haydenโ€™s side.

โ€œMiss Kay, youโ€™re here too?โ€ Yara didnโ€™t sound surprised at all. There wasnโ€™t even a hint of panic, just her usual cheerful tone.

โ€œThatโ€™s right,โ€ Keira replied, keeping her voice light. โ€œIs Hayden in the shower or getting dressed?โ€

Ron frantically tried to mediate. โ€œLetโ€™s not joke around like that. Everyone here is just friends, nothing more.โ€

Before he could finish, Yaraโ€™s voice came through the phone again, as calm as ever. โ€œHeโ€™sโ€ฆ getting dressed.โ€

That was the last straw for Ron. He couldnโ€™t sit still any longer and lunged to grab the phone. โ€œFor heavenโ€™s sake, can you stop messing around? Youโ€™re going to get someone killed!โ€

โ€œIโ€™m just telling the truth. Donโ€™t believe me? Letโ€™s ask Hayden. You can hear for yourself,โ€ Yara said, her voice dripping with amusement. Then she called out, โ€œHayden, are you done getting dressed? Ron is looking for you.โ€

โ€œAlmost. What does he want?โ€ Haydenโ€™s voice came through, calm and casual.

Ron was practically white as a sheet, his eyes now fixed squarely on Keiraโ€™s face, studying her every reaction.

โ€œYara, stop playing games! Turn the camera toward Hayden. I need to see if heโ€™s wearing pants or a shirt,โ€ Ron demanded, his panic barely concealed.

โ€œAnd who says youโ€™re allowed to look?โ€ Yara deflected smoothly, refusing to cooperate.

Keira stood up at that moment without a word and headed for the door. Ron scrambled after her, all the while shouting at Yara through the phone. โ€œYouโ€™re really going too far! Just wait and see how Hayden deals with me later.โ€

โ€œOh, Iโ€™ll be waiting. Iโ€™m hanging up now. I need to change too,โ€ Yara replied with an even more suggestive tone before ending the call.

Ron looked ready to smash the phone into pieces. He blocked Keiraโ€™s path at the door, desperation written all over his face. โ€œKeira, I swear, itโ€™s not what you think. Yara was just messing with us!โ€

โ€œOh,โ€ Keira replied blandly, not breaking stride.

โ€œDonโ€™t just say โ€˜ohโ€™! Iโ€™m serious! I swear, if Iโ€™m lying, Iโ€™ll never find a wife in this lifetime. Howโ€™s that?โ€ he pleaded, looking genuinely distressed.

It seemed like swearing on spouses had become the go-to for everything latelyโ€”cheap and overused.

โ€œOh,โ€ Keira said again, her tone unchanged.

Ron was on the verge of a meltdown. โ€œDonโ€™t misunderstand Hayden! Iโ€™ll have him explain everything to you!โ€

โ€œOh.โ€

By now, sweat was dripping from Ronโ€™s forehead and nose. โ€œI might as well jump from this twentieth floor and end it all!โ€

โ€œWant me to open the window for you?โ€ Keira offered, her tone deadpan.

Her words rendered him speechless, leaving him frozen in place.
