Seeing Ronโ€™s desperation, Keira moved to leave again, but he pressed the door shut, blocking her way.

โ€œAlright,โ€ he sighed heavily. โ€œIโ€™ll tell you the truth about what Hayden has been up to lately.โ€

Keira didnโ€™t return to the courtyard right away. Since she was already out, she decided to stroll around for a bit.

For the past few days, she hadnโ€™t been able to stop thinking about Nina. Sasha had mentioned bringing her over to see her on the weekend, but she never did. Keira had sent her a message to ask, and her reply was vague: she claimed it wasnโ€™t convenient because of her pregnancy.

Something didnโ€™t sit right with her, so she went to Ninaโ€™s school. To her surprise, her teacher informed her that she had transferred schools some time ago.

A wave of unease washed over her. She immediately called Sasha.

โ€œWhy did Nina transfer schools? Where is she now?โ€ Keira asked sharply.

โ€œYou went to her school? Why didnโ€™t you tell me beforehand?โ€ Sasha sounded groggy, like she had just woken up, yawning repeatedly.

Keira didnโ€™t entertain her excuses and pressed again, โ€œIโ€™m asking youโ€”where is Nina?โ€

โ€œSheโ€™s at school. Iโ€™ll send you the address. Todayโ€™s a parent-child day, and thereโ€™s a lunch event at noon. I was too tired to go, soโ€ฆโ€ She trailed off, casually offloading the responsibility onto Keira before hanging up.

A moment later, Keira received a text with the location of a kindergarten.

Her indifference made her even more worried about Nina.

Keira drove to the kindergarten. When she arrived, she was only allowed in after a quick video call to confirm her identity with Nina.

The moment she saw her, Ninaโ€™s first words were, โ€œSister, I thought you didnโ€™t like me anymore and had forgotten about me.โ€

โ€œNo, not at all. Iโ€™ve just been very busy. Iโ€™m sorry Iโ€™m late,โ€ Keira said, crouching to her level and offering her a small gift sheโ€™d brought.

But Nina wasnโ€™t particularly interested in the gift. Keira didnโ€™t need to guessโ€”Sasha had probably been using gifts to make up for her own lack of presence in Ninaโ€™s life.

โ€œHow about this? I will stay with you today, and weโ€™ll have lunch together,โ€ Keira suggested gently.

She froze for a second, then muttered, โ€œIs it because my mom didnโ€™t have time again?โ€

Her disappointment and resignation broke Keiraโ€™s heart.

โ€œNo, itโ€™s because I wanted to come see you,โ€ Keira reassured her. โ€œI asked your mom to let me have this chance. But if you want her here, I can call her.โ€

Nina shook her head and grabbed Keiraโ€™s hand tightly. โ€œI want you to stay with me.โ€

Keira squeezed her little hand and whispered, โ€œThank you.โ€ Then she leaned closer and added with a smile, โ€œYou know, Iโ€™ve always wanted to try the food at your kindergarten. They never let me before, but today I finally get the chance!โ€

Hearing that, Nina giggled and whispered back, โ€œDonโ€™t eat the tomato and egg stir-fryโ€”itโ€™s awful.โ€

Keira laughed. โ€œGot it. Do you have drumsticks? I love drumsticks.โ€

She nodded eagerly. โ€œTake the big ones. The small ones arenโ€™t enough for you.โ€

Just a few words, and Nina was already smiling and warming up to her again.

Keira spent the rest of the morning playing games with her before lunch, and they ate together at the kindergarten. It wasnโ€™t until her nap time that she finally prepared to leave.

As she was saying goodbye, Ninaโ€™s eyes were filled with reluctance.

โ€œHow about this? When the weekend comes and you donโ€™t have school, Iโ€™ll come pick you up, okay?โ€ Keira suggested, letting her place her small hand on her belly. โ€œThereโ€™s a little baby in here. In a few months, youโ€™ll get to meet them and play together.โ€

Her eyes sparkled with excitement. โ€œSister, youโ€™re having a baby? Iโ€™m going to have a little brother or sister?โ€

Keira chuckled at her enthusiasm. โ€œYes, thatโ€™s right.โ€

Ninaโ€™s delight was contagious, even if her titles for the baby were a little jumbled.

After leaving the kindergarten, Keira finally checked her phone. There were missed calls and messages from Hayden.
