Chapter 759 Discrimination

Hayleyโ€™s POV:

The party was packed. With so many people milling about, no one really noticed our arrival.

The Cyclone Pack had always looked down on outsiders, and that attitude hadnโ€™t changed, especially toward a low-tier Omega from another region like me.

But when Truman and Melody walked in, a turmoil took place.

โ€œMr. White has graced us with his presence! Looks like this yearโ€™s Rock Betting Auction just leveled up,โ€ someone exclaimed, all smiles and flattery. โ€œDidnโ€™t expect you and Ms. Melody to still be going strongโ€”what a lovely couple.โ€

Trumanโ€™s expression didnโ€™t change. His lips curled into a polite, distant smile. โ€œMelody is my most capable assistant. Nothing more. I hope no one gets the wrong idea and stops her from finding her true mate.โ€

โ€œOhโ€”got it, of course! Our mistake. Come on, Mr. White, letโ€™s talk inside!โ€

The man, trying to appear friendly, wrapped an arm around Trumanโ€™s shoulder and quickly led him aside, chatting away.

Melody followed obediently without a hint of discontent.

I couldnโ€™t help but shake my head. Poor woman. Her mind had been completely bent to his will.

Truman may be an Alpha, but if he canโ€™t even acknowledge you publicly, thereโ€™s no way heโ€™s ever going to make you his Luna. Why cling to him like that? Walk away while you still can.

โ€œMs. Sander, are you alright?โ€ Humbert asked, clearly puzzled.

I took a deep breath, but Hera was already irritated by the scent she didnโ€™t like. I couldnโ€™t calm her down in time, so before I knew it, I turned and smacked Humbert lightly on the forehead. โ€œIโ€™m Carson. Carson! Why could you be such a fool?โ€

Humbert rubbed his head, looking completely lost. โ€œRight, Carson. Got it. Ms. Sโ€ฆ Carson!โ€

โ€œSorry, that came out a little strong,โ€ I muttered, letting out a sigh.

Then I steered us toward the least crowded corner. โ€œCome on, letโ€™s get some fresh air over there.โ€

The last thing I wanted was to run into Truman again.

Even in the corner, a few small groups gathered, chatting quietly. I didnโ€™t know any of them, so I leaned against a stone pillar with a glass of wine, watching the crowd closely.

Thatโ€™s when a group of middle-aged women wandered my way, chatting animatedly.

โ€œThis yearโ€™s event is definitely bigger than last yearโ€™s. There are so many people, one hall canโ€™t even hold them all.โ€

โ€œItโ€™s those outsidersโ€”Winterbite Pack sent people, and even the biggest jewelry firms from out of state are here. The hotels are all booked solid!โ€

โ€œLooks like they come prepared, probably hoping to take the best raw stones for themselves.โ€

โ€œAs if! Our pack is full of experts. Even our kids know more about rock betting than those outsiders. Think they can beat us at our own game? Keep dreaming.โ€

โ€œAnd even though weโ€™re all wolfkind, their appearances are so different from us. I just donโ€™t like them.โ€

โ€œTheyโ€™re all the same, those outsider werewolvesโ€”nothing but brutes fighting over territory. When it comes to real rock-betting skills, they canโ€™t hold a candle to us!โ€

The women snickered and chattered among themselves, every word soaked in disdain for wolves like me, outsiders. They didnโ€™t even try to hide their contempt. Now and then, they burst into laughter, shrill and irritating.

Their laughter grated on my nerves. I scoffed sharply, unable to hold back the sarcasm.

One of them wrinkled her nose and turned to me with a look of pure annoyance. โ€œWho are you supposed to be?โ€

โ€œWeโ€™re having our own conversationโ€”mind your own business,โ€ another woman snapped. She was a high-ranking Omega and made sure I knew she thought she was above me.

I stepped forward, my face calm but cold. โ€œWolf blood runs in all of us. Who exactly do you think is beneath you?โ€

The womanโ€™s expression darkened.

โ€œWhat is your problem with my words? I wasnโ€™t talking about you specifically, so donโ€™t act like you own the place.โ€

โ€œYeah! You think just because youโ€™re an outsider with a chip on your shoulder, you can lecture us?โ€

โ€œClearly, someone didnโ€™t get raised right.โ€

My hands clenched at my sides as Hera roared in my chest, but I fought to keep my cool.

โ€œIf you werenโ€™t so full of yourselves, barking like youโ€™re royalty and looking down on anyone whoโ€™s not from your pack, I wouldnโ€™t have wasted my time saying a single word to you.โ€

My words turned heads. Other guests started watching. The womanโ€™s ears flushed red with rage.

โ€œStop lying! We never said anything like that!โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s right. Weโ€™re nothing but welcoming to our guests. Weโ€™d never discriminate against outsiders. Sheโ€™s clearly here to stir up trouble!โ€

โ€œWhere are the security guards? How did someone like her even get in here? Someone! Get this troublemaker out right now!โ€
