Alpha Hayleyโs Destined Mate: Chapter 650, Surrendering My Body
Hayleyโs POV:
Benjamin followed closely beside me. As soon as we stepped out, a group of his subordinates approached him secretively. They handed over something before quickly retreating. The moment they left, I vaulted over the wall surrounding Benjaminโs residence. Benjamin sighed as he watched me. โCanโt you just use the front door?โ
I knew he was worried Iโd hurt myself or break a leg, considering he still saw me as an Omega. But honestly, if he werenโt here, I could have simply surrendered my body to Heraโit would have been much easier to get inside that way. โToo much trouble,โ I muttered before striding directly into the house.
After circling the main hall and finding nothing suspicious, I turned to Benjamin and asked, โWhereโs the treasure?โ
Benjamin smiled faintly. โWhat makes you so sure thatโs what they delivered?โ
โI just know,โ I said impatiently. โNow hurry up and tell me where it is!โ
His lips curved into a doting smile as he shook his head. Then, he lifted his chin, gesturing toward the innermost room. I could barely contain myself and almost ran toward it. But as I neared the door, Hera picked up a familiar scent that sent me a wave of unease.
With growing apprehension, I pushed the door open. The moment I saw the item inside, my heart clenched. Benjaminโs so-called โtreasureโ turned out to be an ice coffin. And inside it lay a person.
Sure enoughโit was someone I knew well: Dominic Reid, the former administrator of the SI Organizationโthe man who had been replaced. I had assumed Dominic was merely being held captive. I never expected to find him like this.
Forcing myself to stay calm, I stepped closer to examine him. But I couldnโt sense any sign of life from within the coffin.
โIs he dead?โ I turned to Benjamin in disbelief, my voice heavy with sorrow.
Benjaminโs POV:
I hadnโt expected this kind of reaction from Hayley. She knew this man. That realization unsettled me. This was the first time I had ever seen her display such undeniable concern for another man. A heavy sensation settled in my chest, filling me with an inexplicable irritation.
โA corpse has no value in a power struggle,โ I said coldly. โThe ice coffin maintains a constant temperature and provides enough oxygen. Right now, heโs merely in a state of feigned death.โ
At those words, Hayley visibly relaxed. Without hesitation, she stepped forward and opened the ice coffin.
Hayleyโs POV:
A quick examination told me that Dominicโs condition was far more severe than simple unconsciousness. His tendons had been severedโboth in his hands and feet. That was why he had lost consciousness. I tried to have Hera summon his wolf, but no matter how many times I called, it wouldnโt wake. Someone had injected him with a drug. On the surface, he looked like he was merely asleep, but in reality, he was teetering on the edge of death.
I couldnโt determine exactly what had been used on him, but one thing was clearโhe needed surgery immediately. With Benjamin standing right there, I had no time to worry about keeping secrets. I pulled out my phone and called Claudio.
โYou need to return immediately,โ I said sternly. โDominic is in trouble. Youโll have to perform the surgery yourself.โ
โWaitโwho did you say?โ
โDominic. Heโsโฆ Thatโs impossible!โ Claudioโs voice was laced with disbelief. โI was just exchanging messages with him before you called!โ
My heart sank. After a brief moment of thought, I gave a swift order. โGet out of there. Now.โ
