Alpha Hayleyโs Destined Mate
Chapter 651: Racing Against Time
Hayleyโs POV:
โYouโve been exposed,โ a voice stated.
โWait, what are you even talking about?โ His voice was filled with confusion.
โFirst, you tell me Dominic is in trouble, and now youโre saying heโs why my location was compromised? I swear my brain doesnโt have enough processing power for all this!โ
โThen stop overanalyzing and just run,โ I ordered. โIโll send you a secure extraction route shortly. Get back here immediately!โ I ended the call, my thoughts a tangled mess.
Dominic is a top executive in the SI Organization and one of its most respected and trusted figures. His security clearance was top-tier. To say he was compromised and had leaked our membersโ locations sounded utterly absurd. But reality was staring us in the face. All I could do now was minimize the damage and salvage what I could. Whether the others believed it or not was up to them.
โDo you have a computer?โ I turned to Benjamin.
โIn my room,โ he said casually.
โLet me use it.โ Without waiting for a response, I headed straight for his room.
Several hostile forces had already locked onto Claudioโs location, as I suspected. The closest one was only about 300 feet away. Which meant he was seconds away from being caught.
I immediately got to work, launching a counterattack on their tracking system. After successfully disabling it, I quickly masked Claudioโs signal. Gradually, the indicators representing him and his pursuers began to move apart.
Five minutes later, my phone rang.
โShit! Boss, are you serious?! I was this close to getting caught! Who the hell hacked into our system?โ Claudio cursed in frustration.
โNo idea yet.โ Keeping my voice steady, I instructed, โThe longer you stay out there, the more danger youโre in. Iโm sending a helicopter to pick you up. Once you reach the airport, board the private jet back home.โ
โGot it. As long as you get me back safely with these meds, I donโt careโhell, Iโll be your damn lapdog if I have to!โ Claudio laughed.
I hung up without another word.
Chapter 651: Racing Against Time
Benjaminโs POV:
My wolf, Lawrence, could sense Hayleyโs anxiety. So I waited outside for a while, giving her space to finish her call before stepping in to check on her. I wanted to see if she needed my help. But when I got close, it was as if I didnโt even exist. She was completely absorbed in the computer screen, treating me like thin air. A strange, suffocating ache settled in my chest. Being ignored like thisโฆmade me regret ever bringing that item back.
โThat guyโheโs your friend?โ I couldnโt hold back the question, seizing a moment when she paused her typing.
โMm.โ Hayleyโs response was indifferent.
โYouโre close?โ
โYeah, pretty close,โ she said after a brief hesitation. โHe saved my life.โ
โOh?โ I forced myself to remain calm. I was starting to understand just how important this man was to her. I studied her face, waiting for her to elaborate on their relationship. But all she said was, โI donโt want to talk about the past.โ Then, with a chillingly neutral tone, she added, โThis manโI have to protect him. No matter what. It will be dangerous, and Iโll be making enemies in the process.โ
โI donโt want to drag you into this. So are you moving out, or should I take him somewhere else?โ
A sharp pain struck my heart once again. Did she not see me as her mate at all? I took a deep breath, gazing at her with helpless frustration. Was this guy really just someone who saved her life? Or was he more than that? Because right now, in Hayleyโs eyes, he seemed to matter more than I did.
โIs that all you have to say?โ I asked, my voice tinged with quiet hope.
