Chapter 742

Theyโ€™d driven a few miles when Teresa suddenly grabbed Jonathanโ€™s arm. Sheโ€™d forgotten her insurance card.

โ€œI got it for you,โ€ Jonathan said, glancing at her hand before pulling the card from his pocket.

Teresa took it, puzzled. โ€œWhen did you grab it?โ€

โ€œYou left it on the coffee table. I was checking if youโ€™d remember, and sure enough, you forgot. Your memory is terrible. I canโ€™t trust you out alone. Youโ€™d be easily fooled if someone tried to trick you.โ€

Teresa sighed. โ€œMy memory is usually great. This was just a fluke.โ€

โ€œI bet pregnancy brain lasts for several years,โ€ Jonathan teased with a smirk, slowing down over the speed bump.

Soon, they arrived at the hospital entrance. Teresa carefully got out of the car, and Jonathan was right there, steadying her with a hand on her waist.

โ€œThereโ€™s no need. Iโ€™m not that delicate,โ€ Teresa insisted.

โ€œThere are a lot of people at the hospital. Itโ€™s necessary for me to hold you,โ€ Jonathan said.

Meanwhile, Jennifer had just stepped out of her office, planning to grab a cup of coffee to perk herself up. When she spotted Jonathan with Teresa, her face darkened, and she strode over.

โ€œTeresa,โ€ she said casually, acting like sheโ€™d never left Teresa and Michael behind that day. โ€œWhatโ€™s going on? Hanging out with your ex again?โ€

โ€œIโ€™m her guardian now. Is it wrong for me to bring her to the hospital?โ€ Jonathan shot back.

Teresa glanced at him, confused.

Jennifer let out a cold laugh. โ€œMy sister is an adult. She doesnโ€™t need a guardianโ€”especially not you, her ex-husband.โ€

โ€œWhat goes on between her and me isnโ€™t for you to decide,โ€ Jonathan said as he pulled out his phone.

โ€œI should give Donald a call. How can a doctor who breaks medical ethics and has no sense of decency still be sitting here? Does he really think apologizing to me makes everything okay?โ€

Jenniferโ€™s face twisted in shock. She hadnโ€™t expected Donald to actually go to Jonathan for her sake. โ€˜How could Donald do something humble like that?โ€™ she thought.

โ€œForget it. I wonโ€™t call Donald,โ€ Jonathan continued. โ€œIโ€™ll go straight to your hospital director and ask how heโ€™s handling your misconduct. How dare you still sit there, tarnishing the honor of being a doctor?โ€

Jenniferโ€™s already twisted expression grew even darker. โ€œAre you really going to meddle in everything? Canโ€™t I just cover a shift for a colleague for one day?โ€

With that, Jennifer grabbed Teresaโ€™s arm, pulling her along a bit roughly. โ€œCome on, get inside. Let me handle your exam.โ€

Jonathan pulled Teresa closer, wrapping his arm protectively around her shoulders. โ€œWeโ€™ll find another doctor. I donโ€™t trust an unethical doctor to examine my child. Who knows what you might try to pull next?โ€

Jennifer looked deeply embarrassed.

Teresa frowned, pain flashing across her arm from Jenniferโ€™s grip. She blurted out, โ€œLet go of me.โ€

As Jonathan saw Teresaโ€™s discomfort, his expression turned colder. โ€œLet her go, unless you want me to expose your scandals right here. Or should I just call Donald and have him come over? At this point, I owe neither you nor Donald any courtesy.โ€

The moment Donaldโ€™s name came up, Jennifer gritted her teeth and finally let go of Teresa.

Jonathan held Teresa close, not bothering to be polite as he warned Jennifer, โ€œYou have two days to get your resignation paperwork done. Otherwise, it wonโ€™t be as easy as just walking away.โ€

He turned to Teresa. โ€œAlright, letโ€™s go.โ€

Teresa looked at Jonathan, confused. โ€œWhatโ€™s with you today? Youโ€™re acting like youโ€™re all fired up or something.โ€

โ€œShe kicked you and Mike out of the car. How could I just stay silent about it? What, does she think Iโ€™m some spineless dad?โ€ Jonathan deliberately raised his voice, making sure everyone on the floor could hear him.

Jennifer also heard that, and her expression darkened again.

A few passing nurses caught his words, shooting Jennifer curious looks and whispering behind her back.

โ€œWow, how could Dr. Nelson be so heartless? She actually kicked her own sister out of the car,โ€ one of them whispered.

โ€œWell, isnโ€™t she always cold and distant? Have you ever seen her be nice to anyone?โ€ another nurse whispered.

โ€œStill, she canโ€™t treat her own sister like that. Look, her sisterโ€™s pregnant,โ€ a third one chimed in.

โ€œYeah, kicking a pregnant woman out of the carโ€”what kind of sister does that?โ€ the first one replied.

Jennifer clenched her fingers tightly and suddenly spun around, shooting the nurses a fierce glare. Only then did they scatter.

With a loud bang, Jennifer slammed her office door shut in frustration. Inside, she clenched her fists tightly, grabbing her phone to call Donald and complain.

But she stopped herself. โ€˜No, I canโ€™t throw a tantrum at Donald right now. I have to hold onto the last shred of dignity I have left in front of him,โ€™ she told herself.

At the gynecology department, Jonathan had another doctor check Teresa. The checkup confirmed the baby was healthy, but she needed rest and better self-care. The doctor told her not to push herself too hard and said she showed signs of mild malnutrition.

Jonathan kept a close watch the whole time, making sure he was there for every part of the exam, never leaving Teresaโ€™s side for even a moment.

Teresa turned to Jonathan. โ€œDid our son tell you Jennifer kicked me out of the car?โ€

Jonathan gave her a helpless look. โ€œShould I rely on you? You tell me nothing. Youโ€™re so foolish. She isnโ€™t even your real sister. Why let someone like her manipulate you?โ€

Teresa hesitated, too proud to admit the truth. โ€œI still canโ€™t be sure if sheโ€™s my real sister. When we argued in the car, both were angry, and we had a fight. That was why she did that. Just leave it. Itโ€™s not your concern.โ€

โ€œIf I ignore this, sheโ€™ll keep pushing,โ€ Jonathan said coldly. โ€œYou bought her that car, and youโ€™re pregnant. Besides, our son was in the car too. She threw all three of you out like it was nothing. Does she really think I wonโ€™t sue her?โ€

Jonathanโ€™s expression hardened. โ€œAfter we get the test report, if she isnโ€™t your sister, I wonโ€™t let someone like her go unpunished.โ€

After all, this grudge has been brewing for a long time. If it werenโ€™t for the fact that Jennifer was pregnant, Jonathan wouldnโ€™t have given her the time of day.

Teresa frowned. โ€œJonathan, this is my familyโ€™s business. Iโ€™ll deal with it myself.โ€

โ€œYou can handle it your way, but settling the score is my business. Weโ€™ll each do our own thing and not get in each otherโ€™s way,โ€ Jonathan shot back.

Teresa was speechless. She could tell Jonathan was really angry right now.

โ€˜Heโ€™s so slyโ€”just like him. All day yesterday, he didnโ€™t say a single bad thing about Jennifer. Turns out he was saving it for today, just so he could say it right in front of her coworkers,โ€™ she thought.

Just then, Teresaโ€™s phone rang. She snapped out of her thoughts, glanced at the caller ID, and quickly answered. โ€œHelloโ€ฆ Oh, really? Okay, I got it. Iโ€™ll come pick it up soon.โ€

After hanging up, Teresa told Jonathan, โ€œThe testing agency called. They said the expedited DNA test results for Jennifer and Mom are ready.โ€
