Chapter 656
Through the open window of the car, Teresa said with no expression, "Whoever it is, it has nothing to do with me."
"You said it yourself, if you pester Jonathan again, I swear I won't let you off the hook. God is watching, and youโll end up just like Liora,โ sharply said Irene.
Teresa raised an eyebrow at the mention of Liora, a flicker of confusion crossing her face.
Irene pointed her finger at Teresa and said, โYouโre just like Sanfordโs mother, a two-faced hypocrite. You put on airs just because you have money."
"Back then, you tricked Jonathan into loving you with money. Iโd worked my fingers to the bone all my life. How could a wicked woman like you marry my son and live a life of leisure?โ
Teresa took a deep breath, โWell, I failed every item in your ideal woman checklist: not patient, not diligent, not obedient. Congratulations, then. Ms. Kelly sounds like your dream housemaid.โ
Irene sneered, curling her lips. โMs. Kelly is no housemaid. Now that Jonathanโs rich, what he needs is a virtuous woman from a noble family. Jonathan wouldnโt give your money a second glance.โ
Before Irene could finish her sentence, Teresa splashed a bottle of water straight into her face. With a shriek, Irene lost her balance and fell to the ground.
Irene didnโt expect Teresa to douse her with water.
โHave you lost your mind, Teresa?โ Irene shouted.
โHow could you be so rude and ill-bred?โ Irene continued.
Teresa snapped, โGet out of my way. Youโve been blocking my path. I couldnโt do anything but douse you with water.โ
โYouโโ Irene struggled to get up, but the floor was slippery, and she was brought crushingly to the ground again.
Several passing drivers rushed to help Irene up, shooting Teresa disdainful glances, as if to say, โTut, tut, kids these days have no respect for the elders at all. What has society come to?โ
Teresa couldnโt be bothered to explain herself to strangers. After all, they just pretended to be righteous so they could call others sinners.
She stomped on the gas and peeled away.
Teresa got her passport and visa sorted. She would be leaving shortly. She went to the bank and got some cash, then got in her car.
Teresa spent all afternoon finishing all the paperwork. With no time to cook dinner, she got some takeout before heading home. When she got in, she found the traffic jam was awful.
Her car was stuck in traffic, unmoving.
She stopped the car and lay face downwards on the steering wheel, her shoulders shaking with sobs.
A black Maybach was parked not far away from her car.
Through the half-open window of the car, Jonathan saw Teresa suddenly lying face downwards on the steering wheel and crying.
Jonathanโs fists clenched tightly. Opening the door of the car, he was about to get out when he abruptly stopped. Forcing himself to calm down, he called Miriam like he did before.
It was a long time before Miriam picked up.
Jonathan said, โTeresa seems upset. Iโll send you her location. Come check on her.โ
Miriam sighed helplessly. โHas Jennifer bullied Teresa again! I canโt come right now. Iโm stuck in Gorthany, waiting for my test.โ
Jonathan asked, โWhat kind of test?โ
โNever mind, itโs none of your business. Go comfort Teresa. I can't deliver her to you now,โ
With that, Miriam hung up.
Jonathan pursed his thin lips and looked towards Teresa again.
He was just about to get out of the car when she lifted her head.
She wiped away tears, glancing in the rearview mirror at the honking cars behind her. The traffic had finally cleared, and she could go.
She started the car and drove off.
