Chapter 657

Teresa didnโ€™t notice Jonathanโ€™s car at all. She drove into the residential complex while Jonathan stopped his car at the entrance. He watched Teresa step out of the car with her purchases and shut the car door. Lost in her thoughts, Teresa didnโ€™t notice the passport slipping from her pocket.

Watching her enter the building, Jonathan got out of the car. He picked up her passport and flipped it open. When he saw her face in the photo, he frowned.

"Where is she going?" Jonathan wondered.

Only when the phone rang did Jonathan react. He answered it.

Hayden snapped, โ€œYou brat, I told you to come to the hospital as soon as possible. Whatโ€™s taking you so long!โ€

โ€œSomething came up on the way,โ€ said Jonathan carelessly.

โ€œCome here now. Torosa came to see me with loads of gifts and flowers. Guess what? I just found an expensive gift inside the bouquet. I have no idea what it is. Youโ€™d better come check it out.โ€

Jonathanโ€™s frown deepened. Jonathan said, โ€œIโ€™m on my way.โ€

Jonathan put Teresaโ€™s passport into his coat.

Teresa found her passport missing when she got home. Frantically, she searched through the bags, but it was nowhere to be found. Michael, leaning on the windowsill, called out excitedly. โ€œMommy, look. Thatโ€™s Mr. Limeโ€™s car.โ€

Teresa was startled. By the time she looked in the direction Michael was pointing, all she could see were the carโ€™s taillights disappearing.

"Jonathan? What was he doing here? Why did he leave?" Teresa wondered.

Without another thought, Teresa rushed downstairs to look for her passport. She thought, "I must have left it in the car.โ€

Teresa searched every corner of the car, but her passport was nowhere to be found. A passing elderly janitor said, โ€œI saw a tall man holding a passport get into a car.โ€

"That tall guy must be Jonathan. After all, Michael saw his car too," Teresa thought.

Teresa had no choice but to dial his number, though calling him was the last thing she wanted to do. Jonathanโ€™s deep, magnetic voice came through. โ€œHello?โ€ Teresaโ€™s heart skipped a beat, but she quickly steadied herself.

โ€œDid you pick up my passport?โ€ she asked, trying to keep her tone steady.

โ€œWhere are you going?โ€ asked Jonathan.

โ€œNot your concern. Did you pick it up or not?โ€ said Teresa.

Jonathan didnโ€™t deny it and said, โ€œIf youโ€™d be careful, I wonโ€™t have to pick it up for you.โ€

Teresa didnโ€™t want to argue with him. Cutting straight to the point, she said, โ€œJust give it back. My ID card is tucked inside too.โ€

โ€œCome get it yourself,โ€ Jonathan hung up.

Teresa was speechless. โ€œHow could he hang up so quickly? Where on earth am I supposed to get it?" Teresa wondered.

Reluctantly, Teresa called Jonathan again.

โ€œSo where am I supposed to get it?โ€ ventured Teresa.

โ€œHospital,โ€ Jonathan replied and hung up again.

Teresa was speechless.

Teresa thought, if only Miriam were here, I could ask her to pick it up for me. I really donโ€™t want to go to the hospital, especially after the argument with Irene. How about calling Jennifer? No, thatโ€™s absolutely impossible. Not long ago, I slapped Jennifer, Iโ€™ve made up my mind Iโ€™ll never ask her for help again. Then I have no choice but to make the trip myself!

When Teresa pulled into the hospital parking lot and was about to get out, she suddenly spotted Michael lying across the back seat.

Startled, Teresa exclaimed, โ€œMichael, did you sneak into the car while I wasnโ€™t looking?โ€

โ€œYeah, mommy, youโ€™re so clever,โ€ said Michael.

Michael leaned in and gave Teresa a peck on the cheek, his eyes twinkling with excitement. โ€œMommy, did you come to see Mr. Lime? I miss Mr. Lime so much?"
