Chapter 482
Lyndon pushed his glasses up and said sarcastically, โYou said sheโs never even dated? Come on. Iโm not stupid. If sheโs never dated, then where did the kid come from? She told me sheโs a single mom.โ
โWait. Hold on a sec,โ Benny interrupted, raising a hand. He asked, โWho has a kid?โ
Lyndon replied, โWho do you think?โ
โCherylโฆ has a kid?โ Benny stammered, sounding even more shocked than Lyndon. He couldnโt comprehend it. He wondered, How could that girl, who still had baby fat, have a kid?
Lyndon wiped blood from the corner of his mouth and said, โI went to her place, and it was a mess. I saw a diaper on the table, and she just came clean with me. She has a baby, and she showed me the baby. When I saw that baby girl lying on the bed, I was completely stunned.โ
Lyndon grumbled, โDoes she really take me for an idiot? Why should I be the one to raise her kid? Iโm not some sucker.โ
Benny remained silent, frowning and rubbing his chin. He suddenly remembered a previous visit to Teresa. Heโd called her, and heard a baby crying in the background. Heโd assumed it was Nareighโs child and wanted to go upstairs to surprise them, but Cheryl had stopped him, even showing him a cactus toy, pressing the button to make it squeak, to disguise the babyโs cries.
Benny clicked his tongue, suddenly understanding everything. He heard Lyndon add, โShe also told me her family doesnโt know, and she asked me to keep it a secret. Iโโ
But before Lyndon could finish, Benny left. Only then did Lyndon dare to curse Benny inwardly. If you werenโt doing so much better than me, and if your dad wasnโt some big shot, I wouldnโt have just taken your beating without fighting back.
Benny obtained Cherylโs address from Lyndon. He decided to bring something, so he went to a nearby mall and bought some baby formula and a lightweight blanket. Then, he knocked on Cherylโs door. โHey, open up. Iโm here to apologize on behalf of Lyndon.โ
Cheryl leaned against the door, snorted softly, and ignored him. Benny knocked again, saying helplessly, โCome on. Open the door. Lyndon told me you have a daughter.โ He hadnโt even finished when the door swung open. Cheryl hurriedly pulled Benny inside and gripped his arm tightly. Seeing her anxious, wide eyes, Benny quickly reassured her. โRelax. I havenโt told anyone.โ
โReally? Youโre not lying to me, right? Just because Iโm young doesnโt mean you can trick me,โ she said, still suspicious.
Benny sighed. โIf I blabbed, donโt you think your family would have blown up your phone by now?โ
Cheryl saw his point, grabbed her phone, and noted the many missed calls. Only then did she feel relieved.
Benny wanted to set his gifts on the table, but it was piled high with things, so he placed them on the floor. Her place was a mess; the table was completely covered, with no space to sit.
Benny asked, โSo, whereโs the baby? Mind if I take a look?โ
โShe is sleeping. You can peek in, but donโt wake her up,โ Cheryl said tiredly, pointing to a door. She was distraught and even more annoyed at Lyndon for telling Benny.
Benny tiptoed over, gently opened the door a crack, and peeked inside.
