Chapter 483
He saw a tiny baby sleeping on the bed. He thought, โItโs true. Cheryl does have a child. Well, okay then.โ Benny didnโt go in for a closer look; he quietly closed the door again, since the baby was asleep.
Cheryl slumped onto a stool, propped her cheek on one hand, and lowered her head in misery. โI really shouldnโt have told Lyndon the truth,โ she muttered, hitting herself on the head. โIโm such an idiot.โ She couldnโt believe she had naively thought Lyndon would help her care for her daughter.
Benny sat down across from Cheryl, only to realize he was sitting on something. He cleared his throat, pulled out the white bra he had been sitting on, and handed it to Cheryl. Cheryl blushed as she snatched her bra and quickly stuffed it into a shopping bag. โSorry. My place is a bit of a mess. I didnโt have time to clean up,โ she said, embarrassed.
Benny gave her a thumbs-up. โWow, Cheryl, you really kept this under wraps. When you finally make a move, itโs a big one.โ โYou went through something this huge all by yourself and hid out in another city without telling your family?โ
Cheryl bit her lip and remained silent. After a while, she said, โI didnโt want this either, but when I found out, it was too late. I couldnโt bring myself to abort the baby, but I was too scared to tell my family, so I had to have her in secret.โ As she spoke, she lowered her head, covered her face with both hands, and started crying again. Benny grabbed the box of tissues from the table and handed it to her.
He said, โLook, Iโm not your family, so itโs not my place to judge. But where is the babyโs father?โ
Cheryl sniffled, finally lifting her head. โHeโฆโ She paused and shook her head. โHe doesnโt want me or our daughter.โ
Benny started to piece it together. โSo, you broke up with your boyfriend, and then found out you were pregnant. He didnโt want the kid, so you had to go through all this alone. Am I right?โ
Cheryl nodded, wiping her tears. โSomething like that.โ She couldnโt tell Benny she didnโt even know who the father was.
Benny stroked his chin. โSo when you went to Nareigh, you actually brought the baby to see Teresa, right? When I called Teresa, I heard a baby crying in the background. That was your kid, wasnโt it?โ
Cheryl nodded blankly, surprised he even remembered that. Benny sighed. โSo Teresa knows about this, but Jonathan doesnโt, right?โ
โNone of the men in my family have a clue,โ Cheryl replied.
โOkay.โ Benny understood; only Teresa knew. He said, โI see. But keeping this to yourself isnโt the answer. Cheryl, listen to me. Be honest with your family. You can figure it out together.โ
โNo way. Iโm not telling them. Absolutely not.โ Cheryl shook her head, her eyes reddening again.
Benny said, โYou canโt hide this forever. Your family will find out sooner or later. Worst case, theyโll yell at you a bit, and then theyโll go beat up that jerk for ditching you.โ He added, โJust think it over, okay?โ
Benny scribbled his phone number and left it on the table. He said, โThis is my personal number. If you need anything, call me or message me on WhatsApp.โ
By the time Cheryl snapped out of it, Benny had already left. She hadnโt even managed to offer him a drink. She looked around and found the house was a mess, and the formula and baby blanket he had brought for Serena were still there. Cheryl picked up the baby blanket and froze in surprise. She knew the brand was really expensive. She checked the tag and found it cost 2,900 dollars.
