Chapter 483

He saw a tiny baby sleeping on the bed. He thought, โ€˜Itโ€™s true. Cheryl does have a child. Well, okay then.โ€™ Benny didnโ€™t go in for a closer look; he quietly closed the door again, since the baby was asleep.

Cheryl slumped onto a stool, propped her cheek on one hand, and lowered her head in misery. โ€œI really shouldnโ€™t have told Lyndon the truth,โ€ she muttered, hitting herself on the head. โ€œIโ€™m such an idiot.โ€ She couldnโ€™t believe she had naively thought Lyndon would help her care for her daughter.

Benny sat down across from Cheryl, only to realize he was sitting on something. He cleared his throat, pulled out the white bra he had been sitting on, and handed it to Cheryl. Cheryl blushed as she snatched her bra and quickly stuffed it into a shopping bag. โ€œSorry. My place is a bit of a mess. I didnโ€™t have time to clean up,โ€ she said, embarrassed.

Benny gave her a thumbs-up. โ€œWow, Cheryl, you really kept this under wraps. When you finally make a move, itโ€™s a big one.โ€ โ€œYou went through something this huge all by yourself and hid out in another city without telling your family?โ€

Cheryl bit her lip and remained silent. After a while, she said, โ€œI didnโ€™t want this either, but when I found out, it was too late. I couldnโ€™t bring myself to abort the baby, but I was too scared to tell my family, so I had to have her in secret.โ€ As she spoke, she lowered her head, covered her face with both hands, and started crying again. Benny grabbed the box of tissues from the table and handed it to her.

He said, โ€œLook, Iโ€™m not your family, so itโ€™s not my place to judge. But where is the babyโ€™s father?โ€

Cheryl sniffled, finally lifting her head. โ€œHeโ€ฆโ€ She paused and shook her head. โ€œHe doesnโ€™t want me or our daughter.โ€

Benny started to piece it together. โ€œSo, you broke up with your boyfriend, and then found out you were pregnant. He didnโ€™t want the kid, so you had to go through all this alone. Am I right?โ€

Cheryl nodded, wiping her tears. โ€œSomething like that.โ€ She couldnโ€™t tell Benny she didnโ€™t even know who the father was.

Benny stroked his chin. โ€œSo when you went to Nareigh, you actually brought the baby to see Teresa, right? When I called Teresa, I heard a baby crying in the background. That was your kid, wasnโ€™t it?โ€

Cheryl nodded blankly, surprised he even remembered that. Benny sighed. โ€œSo Teresa knows about this, but Jonathan doesnโ€™t, right?โ€

โ€œNone of the men in my family have a clue,โ€ Cheryl replied.

โ€œOkay.โ€ Benny understood; only Teresa knew. He said, โ€œI see. But keeping this to yourself isnโ€™t the answer. Cheryl, listen to me. Be honest with your family. You can figure it out together.โ€

โ€œNo way. Iโ€™m not telling them. Absolutely not.โ€ Cheryl shook her head, her eyes reddening again.

Benny said, โ€œYou canโ€™t hide this forever. Your family will find out sooner or later. Worst case, theyโ€™ll yell at you a bit, and then theyโ€™ll go beat up that jerk for ditching you.โ€ He added, โ€œJust think it over, okay?โ€

Benny scribbled his phone number and left it on the table. He said, โ€œThis is my personal number. If you need anything, call me or message me on WhatsApp.โ€

By the time Cheryl snapped out of it, Benny had already left. She hadnโ€™t even managed to offer him a drink. She looked around and found the house was a mess, and the formula and baby blanket he had brought for Serena were still there. Cheryl picked up the baby blanket and froze in surprise. She knew the brand was really expensive. She checked the tag and found it cost 2,900 dollars.
