Chapter 481
Cheryl sent a message: [Lyndon, where are you? Are you alright?] The message failed to send. A gray sign popped up, making Cheryl freeze. Unwilling to give up, she tried again, assuming it was a weak connection. She adjusted the connection several times, but the gray sign persisted. Even his profile picture had turned gray. Just the night before, they had said goodnight; now, he had blocked her without a word.
At that moment, Cheryl understood. The polite, gentle man wearing glasses, who always kindly expressed his affection and desire to be her boyfriend, had run off without a word when he learned she had a child. He left her there searching for him like an idiot.
Cheryl sat on the steps outside the mall, feeling wronged and bursting into tears. A Lamborghini passed by. Inside, Benny said, โMom, how could I not listen to you? Yeah, Iโm over thirty, and you still donโt have a grandchild. Iโm a terrible son. I know it.โ
โI never said I wouldnโt go on blind dates. Iโve just been out of Nareigh for the past couple of days. I promise Iโll go once Iโm back.โ
After hanging up on his mother, Benny sighed in relief and glanced in the rearview mirror. He spotted a familiar figure. Benny frowned, turned the car around, and pulled up in front of Cheryl.
Cheryl heard a car horn and approaching footsteps. She slowly lifted her head. Benny grinned, โHey, whatโs going on, little lady? Why are your eyes so swollen?โ
Cheryl ignored him, keeping her head down and sobbing. Benny patted his pockets, found no tissues, went to a nearby pizza store, grabbed some napkins, handed them to her, and gently patted her shoulder.
โWhat happened? Tell me, and I can talk to your cousin for you, or my cousin, if youโd rather,โ Benny offered.
Cheryl looked up and glared. โYour cousin? What a joke.โ
Benny spread his hands. โWhatโs wrong with him? He said he fell for you at first sight and wanted to pursue you.โ
Cheryl snapped, โTell him to piss off. He totally ditched me. He didnโt even bother to say a word before running off. All that fake politenessโฆ disgusting. I hate him.โ
Benny went quiet, frowning. โJust get in the car. Iโll settle things with him for you.โ
Cheryl shook her head. โLeave me alone. You should just go. Iโll be fine after a good cry.โ
Benny pulled out his wallet, took out a few hundred dollars, and pressed the cash into Cherylโs hand. โWhen youโre done crying, make sure you drink some water and grab a cab home, okay? Donโt let your family worry.โ
Benny then drove off and contacted Lyndon. He didnโt say much on the phone, only that he needed to talk. Lyndon told him where he was.
As soon as he saw Lyndon, Benny couldnโt hold back. He threw a punch, disregarding the fact that this was his cousin. Lyndonโs glasses flew off, and he fumbled for them.
Benny said angrily, โThatโs my best friendโs little sister. Sheโs still young, probably never even dated before. How could you just leave her hanging? She was crying at the mall. You did it on purpose, didnโt you? You embarrassed me.โ
Lyndon remained silent, eventually finding and putting on his glasses. He looked at Benny. โDonโt even start. You call her innocent? Sheโs not, not even close. I like pure girls.โ
Benny stared, speechless. โWhat are you talking about? Speak clearly.โ
Lyndon let out a cold laugh. โDonโt you know? Sheโs got a kid.โ
