Chapter 479
When they reached her apartment entrance, Cheryl stammered, โLyndon, IโI should head in. Iโll talk to you tomorrow morning.โ
Lyndon said, โAlright. Iโll wait for you at your door tomorrow morning and bring you breakfast.โ
Cheryl nodded. โThank you for being so sweet to me, Lyndon.โ
โSee you,โ Lyndon replied.
Cheryl took a deep breath to steady her nerves before hurrying to her room. Serena was sleeping quietly. Cheryl gently poked Serenaโs chubby cheek. โSerena, what do you think about Mommy finding you a dad? Heโs really gentle and sweet to me. I wonder if youโll like him.โ
She planned to tell Lyndon about Serena, hoping he would help care for her. Therefore, she would attend Donald and Jenniferโs wedding in Nareigh alone, returning to Lonisburg afterward to care for Serena.
After changing Serenaโs diaper and wiping her down, Cheryl murmured, โSerena, Mommy has to leave for a bit tomorrow. Youโll be good, right?โ
She wondered if Lyndon would be surprised to learn she had a daughter. Suddenly, her phone rang. It was Cathy, worried Cheryl might not return home tomorrow.
โMom, Iโm not a kid anymore. I know what I should do,โ Cheryl said.
โYou are still a kid to me. If you skip Donald and Jenniferโs wedding like you did last time, it wonโt just be me and your dad, but your grandpa will give you a piece of his mind too,โ Cathy said.
Cheryl said, โOh, come on. Iโm packing my bags right now. I promise Iโll beโโ
Before she could finish, Serena woke and started wailing. Cathy heard the crying and asked, โWhoโs crying? That sounds like a child.โ
Cheryl quickly said, โItโitโs my neighborโs kid. She left her kid with me for a bit. I need to hang up.โ
Cathy stared at her phone after the call ended, shaking her head helplessly. Werner, sitting beside her, asked, โIs Cheryl coming back?โ
Cathy, not dwelling on the crying, said, โShe said sheโll be back tomorrow morning.โ
โTell her to take care. Itโs fine if she returns tomorrow afternoon. The wedding isnโt until the day after tomorrow, so thereโs no rush,โ Werner said.
Cheryl had just finished feeding Serena. After coaxing Serena to sleep, Cheryl resumed packing. Serena was easy to care for; once fed, she could sleep for two or three hours, allowing Cheryl to get things done without worry. As she packed, Cheryl hummed softly to herself.
Bright and early the next morning, Lyndon brought breakfast for Cheryl. With her hair in two braided pigtails and a puffy dress, Cheryl answered the door and let him in. Seeing Lyndon hesitate at the doorway, unsure about his shoes, Cheryl said, โCome on in. Itโs fine. My place is a bit of a mess. Please donโt mind it.โ
Once inside, Lyndon understood. The table was a disaster; clothes were piled on the couch; and there were several half-eaten takeout boxes. He was a little stunned. He never imagined someone as cute as Cheryl could be so messy in private. Just as he felt a bit disappointed, a diaper on the table caught his eye. Lyndon froze, then walked over for a closer look.
Cheryl, making him a drink, noticed him staring at the diaper. So she confessed, โThat diaper is for my daughter.โ
