Listen to this chapter:

Benny got in touch with Jonathan, who only left Miriam's apartment complex after agreeing to grab a drink.

It wasn't until Jonathan had a few drinks that Benny finally got the truth out of him. Jonathan had misunderstood Teresa. He'd seen her at a hotel with another man, who turned out to be a friend of Teresa's older sister.

"I'll look into the hotel records for you. Don't jump to conclusions yet," Benny said, not even waiting for Jonathan's reply before getting to work.

By the time Jonathan sobered up, it was already the next day. The office called, and he hadn't been in for two days. "I've got a lot going on these days. Let the deputy handle things for now. That's all," he said before hanging up.

He hung up and went to look for Teresa again. He knew he was in no shape to work, even if he did go to the office.

Then Benny called. "Why'd you leave so early? I ordered a few dishes to help with the hangover," he said.

"I thought you'd gone to your law firm, so I didn't say anything," Jonathan replied.

"Right, about that hotel, I checked for you. I pulled the footage from the entrance and the hallway. I've sent it all to you; take a look," Benny said.

"You really did get it wrong. Teresa was just talking to that guy, but she never went into his room."

"I saw him try to get her to go in, but she turned him down. She sat in the hotel lobby waiting for the rain to stop and only drove off after that."

"Yeah," Jonathan said. "I know."

"If you know, then what are you still overthinking?"

Jonathan was quiet for a few seconds before finally saying, "It wasn't until she slapped me that I realized." That's when he understood that he'd gotten it all wrong.

With Teresa's temper, if she'd really done what he accused her ofโ€”if she'd actually gone to a hotelโ€”she wouldn't have hit him that hard. The harder she hit, the more it proved nothing happened. She hit him because she was furious at what he said.

Jonathan drove to Teresa's office building again. The receptionist apologized, "Ms. Johnston asked me to let you know she's out having dinner with her boyfriend."

Jonathan didn't leave. He waited in the lobby.

When Teresa finally came back, it was already one in the afternoon. As she walked in through the revolving door, their eyes met. Jonathan stepped forward and blocked her way.

"I thought you went out to eat with your boyfriend. Why'd you walk back?" asked Jonathan.

"None of your business," Teresa said, not even glancing at him. "We're just being eco-friendly."

Jonathan grabbed her arm, sounding helpless. "Can we just talk? Give me five minutes. That's all I'm asking."

"There's nothing left to say. Please leave. I don't want to see you." Teresa walked straight into the elevator without looking back.

Jonathan was speechless. Teresa stayed at the office working and didn't go home. It was already past ten, and Jonathan was still waiting outside her company, watching the light in her office window.

Jonathan: [I know you don't want to see me. Have you eaten? Let me take you out for a late-night snack?]

She didn't reply to his message.

He thought for a moment, then sent another. [Honestly, I haven't eaten all day. My phone's down to one bar and about to die. I didn't bring my charger, so I'm just sitting on the steps waiting for you.]

[If you think I'm being pathetic, then fine. I'll just wait until you're done with work. It's up to you.]

After sending the message, Jonathan didn't check his phone again.

He sat on the steps on the first floor, waiting for Teresa. Whenever his legs went numb, he'd get up and walk around to stretch, but he never left. He could hear the patter of raindrops. It started raining again, a steady drizzle soaking his hair, but Jonathan didn't move an inch.

A faint voice sounded behind him. "Mr. Lime?"

Jonathan looked around and saw a little boy.
