Chapter 459

Miriam said, “You called me and said you were back. I thought you’d be out having fun for a few more days!”

“Something came up at home,” Teresa said, then asked Miriam, “Why are you in such a rush to return the car? You could have kept it a few more days.”

Miriam sighed and said, “I’m actually here to pick you up and take you to my place, so you can lay low for a bit.”

Noticing Michael watching her, Miriam lowered her voice and leaned in to whisper something in Teresa’s ear.

Teresa froze, her face changing dramatically. She thought, Jonathan is developing a project right near my apartment complex, and it’s already under construction? How do I not know about this?

Miriam said, “I just wanted you to enjoy your trip and not worry about anything, so I didn’t tell you.”

Teresa was speechless. This was way too sudden. If Miriam hadn’t stopped her, she probably would have taken Michael straight home and might have run right into Jonathan. She decided to listen to Miriam and got in the car.

Michael was already getting sleepy in the car. Rubbing his eyes, he laid his head on Teresa’s lap. He asked, “Mom, why aren’t we going back to our own house?”

“We’re going to Miriam’s first,” Teresa soothed him, gently running her fingers through his hair.

Michael slept the whole way, and Teresa couldn’t wake him up. Miriam helped her carry Michael out of the car.

Teresa had brought back a bunch of gifts for Miriam: good luck charms, a necklace, a watch, face masks, and all sorts of tasty local snacks.

Seeing Miriam’s eyes light up, Teresa was glad she liked them. With Michael staying at Miriam’s for now, Teresa planned to head home to drop off her luggage, then go to the hospital later.

“Don’t worry, just go. I’m free today, so I’ll watch Mike for you,” Miriam said, clearly delighted with the gifts Teresa brought.

Jonathan was just about to leave the office when Donald came looking for him, handing over 150 thousand. Jonathan tried to refuse. Donald was his cousin, and Jennifer was Teresa’s sister. He figured it was no big deal to help out.

But Donald was firm. He said, “Jonathan, you’ve already done so much for me. I can’t just keep spending your money. Please, take it. Otherwise, I’ll feel guilty.”

Seeing that Donald wouldn’t back down, Jonathan finally accepted the money.

Donald added, “By the way, I think Teresa’s back in Nareigh. She called me today, just after she landed.”

Jonathan raised an eyebrow. He asked, “Why’d she call you?”

Donald replied, “It was about Jennifer. I told her what happened, but that’s all I said.”

Hearing this, Jonathan suddenly picked up his pace.

Teresa drove back to Rosary Estates, dropped off her luggage, and headed downstairs. Jonathan had parked right next to Teresa’s car. He got out of his car and slammed his car door shut.

Just then, Teresa looked up and saw Jonathan. She paused for a second, then kept walking. She passed by Jonathan with a blank face, like he wasn’t even there.

Jonathan clenched his fist and coughed twice, trying to get her attention. Teresa didn’t even look back. Jonathan coughed again, twice, at her retreating back.

Teresa only turned around after unlocking her car. She asked, “Do you need something, Mr. Lynn?”

Jonathan said, “I heard you went on a business trip. Where’d you go?” He looked at Teresa and found that she looked a lot better. Seeing that she was wearing a loose plaid long coat that went all the way to her calves, he asked, “Aren’t you hot in all that?”

Teresa said, “I’m not hot. Anything else?”
