Chapter 458

Feeling lost, Cheryl hugged Serena even tighter, pressing her cheek against Serena’s face as if seeking comfort. Just then, her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and answered, “Hello, Lyndon.”

Lyndon asked, “Cheryl, are you alright?”

Cheryl replied, “I’ve been fine for a while now. I just fainted from heatstroke and low blood sugar. It’s all my fault for not eating on time. I promise I’ll take better care of myself from now on.”

Lyndon chuckled. He said, “It’s been so hot lately. Just hang in there. A few more days and the weather should cool down.”

His gentle words felt like a warm breeze, soothing Cheryl’s heart. She said, “Thank you for checking on me, Lyndon.”

After hanging up, Cheryl thought back to when she fainted. She remembered someone patting her face—a familiar presence, as if she’d met the person before, but she never saw their face clearly. By the time she woke up, she was already in the hospital.

Then a man walked in. He said, “You’re awake. So you’re a friend of my cousin’s?”

Cheryl looked at the refined man in glasses, a little confused. She asked, “Who are you?”

The man replied, “I’m Lyndon, Benny’s cousin. My cousin, he…”

Before he could finish, Cheryl grabbed his hand gratefully. She said, “Did you save me? Thank you so much!”

Lyndon just smiled and gently told her to get some rest, saying nothing more.

Snapping back to the present, Cheryl sighed. She thought, ‘If I weren’t a mom right now, I definitely would make a move on such a gentle, elegant guy.’

Teresa and Michael had been having a blast in Jade River City these past few days. If she weren’t pregnant, Teresa would have gone up the snow mountain too. Michael was full of energy, always running around, but he was a good kid. Whenever Teresa called out, he’d come right back to her.

Teresa took tons of photos, her album filled with pictures of Michael and selfies of them. She posted them on Facebook, but set them so only Miriam could see. Somehow, that just made Teresa feel even more alone. The only person Teresa could trust and who would genuinely be happy for her seemed to be Miriam.

Teresa had planned to stay a few more days, since there was nothing urgent waiting for her back home. She had no idea what had happened to Jennifer. It was Donald who reached out and told Teresa what had happened.

Knowing the story, Teresa and Michael caught the earliest flight back to Nareigh. As soon as they landed, Teresa called Donald.

Donald said, “Teresa, sorry, I forgot to tell you that the pregnant woman has woken up. She’s out of danger now; everything’s fine. We gave her some money and settled it privately.”

Teresa replied, “Really? That is good news.”

Donald added, “Jennifer’s back at the hospital, but she’s still feeling down. She needs you right now. You’re the only sister she’s got, and she’s always cared about you.”

Teresa went quiet. After a moment, she replied with a soft, “Oh.”

Right after she hung up, Cathy called Teresa. Cathy didn’t know anything about Jennifer’s trouble at the hospital. She was busy getting ready for Jennifer and Donald’s wedding and wanted Teresa to go shopping with her, to buy Teresa a new dress.

Teresa said, “It’s okay, Cathy, I have plenty of clothes. You don’t need to buy me anything.”

Cathy insisted, “Just let me. Think of it as a gift. I saw a pink dress, and I think it would look perfect on you. Why don’t you come over and try it on?”

That was when Teresa realized Cathy probably had something she wanted to talk about. But Teresa was busy that day, so she made a plan to meet Cathy another time. After hanging up, Teresa got ready to head back to Rosary Estates with Michael.

Miriam suddenly pulled up in Teresa’s Porsche, cutting Teresa off halfway home.
