Chapter 458
Feeling lost, Cheryl hugged Serena even tighter, pressing her cheek against Serenaโs face as if seeking comfort. Just then, her phone rang. She glanced at the caller ID and answered, โHello, Lyndon.โ
Lyndon asked, โCheryl, are you alright?โ
Cheryl replied, โIโve been fine for a while now. I just fainted from heatstroke and low blood sugar. Itโs all my fault for not eating on time. I promise Iโll take better care of myself from now on.โ
Lyndon chuckled. He said, โItโs been so hot lately. Just hang in there. A few more days and the weather should cool down.โ
His gentle words felt like a warm breeze, soothing Cherylโs heart. She said, โThank you for checking on me, Lyndon.โ
After hanging up, Cheryl thought back to when she fainted. She remembered someone patting her faceโa familiar presence, as if sheโd met the person before, but she never saw their face clearly. By the time she woke up, she was already in the hospital.
Then a man walked in. He said, โYouโre awake. So youโre a friend of my cousinโs?โ
Cheryl looked at the refined man in glasses, a little confused. She asked, โWho are you?โ
The man replied, โIโm Lyndon, Bennyโs cousin. My cousin, heโฆโ
Before he could finish, Cheryl grabbed his hand gratefully. She said, โDid you save me? Thank you so much!โ
Lyndon just smiled and gently told her to get some rest, saying nothing more.
Snapping back to the present, Cheryl sighed. She thought, โIf I werenโt a mom right now, I definitely would make a move on such a gentle, elegant guy.โ
Teresa and Michael had been having a blast in Jade River City these past few days. If she werenโt pregnant, Teresa would have gone up the snow mountain too. Michael was full of energy, always running around, but he was a good kid. Whenever Teresa called out, heโd come right back to her.
Teresa took tons of photos, her album filled with pictures of Michael and selfies of them. She posted them on Facebook, but set them so only Miriam could see. Somehow, that just made Teresa feel even more alone. The only person Teresa could trust and who would genuinely be happy for her seemed to be Miriam.
Teresa had planned to stay a few more days, since there was nothing urgent waiting for her back home. She had no idea what had happened to Jennifer. It was Donald who reached out and told Teresa what had happened.
Knowing the story, Teresa and Michael caught the earliest flight back to Nareigh. As soon as they landed, Teresa called Donald.
Donald said, โTeresa, sorry, I forgot to tell you that the pregnant woman has woken up. Sheโs out of danger now; everythingโs fine. We gave her some money and settled it privately.โ
Teresa replied, โReally? That is good news.โ
Donald added, โJenniferโs back at the hospital, but sheโs still feeling down. She needs you right now. Youโre the only sister sheโs got, and sheโs always cared about you.โ
Teresa went quiet. After a moment, she replied with a soft, โOh.โ
Right after she hung up, Cathy called Teresa. Cathy didnโt know anything about Jenniferโs trouble at the hospital. She was busy getting ready for Jennifer and Donaldโs wedding and wanted Teresa to go shopping with her, to buy Teresa a new dress.
Teresa said, โItโs okay, Cathy, I have plenty of clothes. You donโt need to buy me anything.โ
Cathy insisted, โJust let me. Think of it as a gift. I saw a pink dress, and I think it would look perfect on you. Why donโt you come over and try it on?โ
That was when Teresa realized Cathy probably had something she wanted to talk about. But Teresa was busy that day, so she made a plan to meet Cathy another time. After hanging up, Teresa got ready to head back to Rosary Estates with Michael.
Miriam suddenly pulled up in Teresaโs Porsche, cutting Teresa off halfway home.
