Chapter 396
Her kiss was desperate and intoxicating, like a powerful drug. It silenced his thoughts as Teresa pressed her lips to his eagerly. Jonathanโs Adamโs apple bobbed, but he didnโt react. He simply let Teresa do as she pleased, neither pushing her away nor pulling her closer.
After kissing him for a while, Teresa had to pull away; she was breathless.
โLove kissing me?โ Jonathan asked, his voice rough.
โYeah,โ Teresa replied.
He teased, โDid it feel good? Was it satisfying?โ
Teresa snapped back to her senses, suddenly realizing the man before her wasnโt the twenty-five-year-old Jonathan she remembered. She shoved him away hard.
Jonathan, still reeling from the kiss before being pushed away, twitched his lips. โWhat? Is this how you treat me?โ he thought.
Later that night, Teresa felt even worse. She glanced at the man lying beside her and instinctively scooted closer.
โJonathan, help me. You put me to bed and then ignored me. You canโt leave me like this,โ she complained.
โHandle it yourself,โ Jonathan advised.
Teresa rolled her eyes. โHow am I supposed to handle it myself?โ she grumbled. โIโm not a man, after all.โ
Jonathan still didnโt budge, lying on his side with his arm under his head.
Frustrated, Teresa turned him over and straddled him. She grabbed his neck with both hands and shook him, nearly at her witโs end.
โHelp me, now! Hey! Jonathan, you canโt treat me like this!โ she protested.
After a night of passion, Teresa woke up feeling like she wanted to crawl under a rock and disappear. She pressed a hand to her forehead, completely mortified by her behavior the night before. Sheโd been both clear-headed and not, as her impulses had completely overpowered her reason. In the end, she was only human, and everyone had their desires.
Without really thinking, Teresa drifted her hand to her belly, wondering how the baby was doing. She made a mental note to get checked as soon as she returned to Mareigh.
At her last appointment, Jennifer had warned her to be extra careful. This second pregnancy might have a posterior placenta, which meant she wouldnโt show as early. That kind of placenta usually led to more back pain, so Jennifer had told Teresa to be cautious.
Teresaโs back had always ached at night, but now the pain was worse, as if it might snap in two.
The door opened. Jonathan walked out of the bathroom, buttoning his crisp white shirt with those long fingers. Teresa glanced at him and quickly pulled the covers over her head, unsure how to face him.
โIf you can still move, get yourself to the dining room. If not, Iโll just have to carry you to breakfast,โ Jonathan teased.
โIโm not some old lady. I can walk just fine,โ Teresa retorted.
Jonathan let out a low chuckle.
Teresa hadnโt expected him to be up so early. She thought heโd just taken a shower, but heโd already made breakfast.
After a night of passion, Teresa was starving. She devoured her food, barely pausing for breath. Jonathan had even made her a special vegetable soup to help with her hangover, and she finished one bowl but was still hungry.
โIs there any more? Iโm still hungry,โ she asked.
Jonathan ladled her another bowl, and when sheโd nearly finished, he finally said slowly, โDo you remember what you said last night?โ
Teresaโs hand froze instantly. She coughed and replied coolly, โNope, I donโt remember.โ
โYou donโt, huh?โ Jonathan said angrily. He pulled out his phone and hit play on a recording.
As a series of intimate sounds filled the room, Teresaโs voice cracked through, breathless and broken.
โItโs fine. You donโt have to worry about me this time. Iโm in my safe period, so if I do end up pregnant, letโs face it together,โ Teresa said.
โFace it together? You promise?โ Jonathan asked.
โMmm-hmm,โ Teresa murmured.
โDo you love me?โ Jonathan asked.
โNoโโ Teresa replied, her voice muffled by Jonathanโs kiss.
โDo you love me? Answer me again,โ Jonathan insisted.
โYes, I do. I love you,โ Teresa responded.
โWho do you love?โ Jonathan demanded.
โI love you, darling,โ Teresa replied.
