Chapter 395
After paying the bill, Teresa left the restaurant and ended up at a bar. It wasn't the one from last time, but somewhereโฆ She couldnโt drink, so she sat with her juice, watching everyone else party. It was her way of passing the time, better than lying awake alone. Honestly, seeing all those couples together wasnโt so bad.
โHey there. All by yourself?โ someone began.
A guy with bleached hair. โBeat it,โ Teresa snapped, sipping her juice and lost in sad memories. She shot an impatient look at the scrawny guy. โDivorced with two kids.โ
โHuh, thatโs interesting. Maybe Iโll go get my boss over here,โ he said, not backing down.
Teresa recognized the voice immediately. She turned and saw the same greasy guy whoโd harassed her at Live Bar, the one Jonathan had punched. โSo, it really is you. It took me long enough to catch you again,โ Duncan swaggered over. Teresa had no interest in further trouble. The less, the better.
She didnโt want to embarrass herself or her hometown, so she tried to play it down. โSir, Iโm just a divorced woman with two kids. Cut me some slack, will you?โ
โCut you some slack?โ Duncan, a regular in such places, grinned and threw an arm around Teresaโs shoulder. โWhereโs your boyfriend? The one who punched me last time? He really let you end up divorced with two kids, huh?โ
โHeโฆ went to the restroom. Iโm going to find him,โ Teresa said, rising to leave.
But Duncan didnโt believe her. As soon as she walked away, he shot the bartender a look. Last time, heโd had no influence at that bar, but tonight, he was the manager. There was no way Teresa was getting away.
Teresa returned to her seat, but Duncan was already gone. Realizing it wasnโt safe to stay, she paid her bill and prepared to leave.
โHey,โ the bartender called, handing her a glass of bright red juice. โFresh watermelon juice, on the house. Itโll help you cool off.โ
Teresa took a couple of sips. โThanks,โ she said, slipping him a small tip before heading out.
Sheโd barely walked a few minutes when her mouth suddenly went dry and her vision spun. She tugged at her collar, confused. She hadnโt even had any alcohol. She grabbed a lamppost for support.
Suddenly, she felt a heavy weight on her shoulder, and someone forced her chin up. A greasy, sinister face loomed, his lips moving to press against hers. She struggled desperately, her face buzzing as if sheโd just been slapped. In her ear, she heard a nasty voice. โYou think you can turn me down? Letโs see how I deal with you.โ
The next thing she knew, screeching brakes cut through the haze, and when Teresa came to, she was already in Jonathanโs car. She shifted, holding her face. โMy face really hurtsโฆโ
Jonathan shot her a frustrated look. โHow many times do you have to make the same mistake? How dare you go to the bar alone again? You are a grown-up. When are you going to learn to look out for yourself!?โ
Teresa didnโt respond. She had already drifted off to sleep again. Jonathan was left speechless.
He pulled up to a convenience store, got out, locked the car, and went in to get some water and a few ice packs for her. If he hadnโt shown up in time, that guy would have taken Teresa away.
Teresa groggily opened her eyes again. Jonathan had already driven them to his villa. He opened the car door and leaned in, reaching to unbuckle her seatbelt.
Teresa licked her dry lips. As if lost in a dream or old memories, she wrapped her slender arms around his neck. โHubby, I missed you,โ she murmured.
Jonathan forced himself to stay calm, coldly lowering her hands. โNothing you say tonight will change my mind,โ he said. โDonโt think calling me โHubbyโ willโฆโ
