Chapter 499
Lemira glanced up, catching Asherโs eye. โYou used to say that the ties I picked out for you were the best. Every time you had a big contract meeting, youโd ask me to pick a new one for you to wear.โ
Asher shifted uncomfortably. โAnd what about it?โ
Was Lemira playing the sentiment card? If she could just play nice, perhaps he could overlook her mistake this time.
But in a swift move, Lemira yanked the tie from his neck. โThis oneโs from me, right?โ
She tossed it into the trash can without looking back.
โWhat are you doing?โ Asherโs voice rose in anger.
Lemira slapped him, leaving Asher stunned.
โThere, weโre even now. Iโm not going to fuss over you handing my belongings and my room over to Evelina.โ
Her voice was melancholy. โAs for the tie, Iโll buy you a new one. That oneโs old anyway.โ
Asher was speechless. Lemira continued, โNow that weโve cleared the air about the past, letโs head out. We wouldnโt want people to think the Langstons are having a family feud.โ
Lemira took Asherโs arm. โLetโs go.โ
Evelina panicked. โAsher!โ
He glanced at her, guilt flitting across his face. โI know what youโre going to say, but Lemira is a Langston, after all. Making a scene isnโt good for anyone in the family.โ
Reconciling with Lemira seemed the only beneficial option for him. Otherwise, today it was a united front against him in the entertainment company; tomorrow, it might be interference in the Langston Group operations.
Evelina was in turmoil. How could Asher forgive Lemira so easily? If Lemira was back in the Langston fold, what would become of her?
Evelina quickly said, โAsher, they were just trying to kick you out of the company!โ
Lemira let out a laugh. โThat was a joke. After all, the company belongs to Caspian, and Iโm here to back him up.โ
Evelina seethed. That liar.
Evelina also took Asherโs arm. โIโll come out with you, too.โ
She couldnโt let Lemira take Asher from her.
Lemiraโs smile was tinged with irony. โI donโt mind. After all, Iโve had some time to think things over.โ
Asher nodded, pleased. โItโs good that youโve come around, Lemira. Remember, youโre a Langston.โ
The sarcasm in Lemiraโs smile deepened. She hadnโt forgotten. Her return to the Langstons was to uncover the truth behind that car accident years ago and to seek justice for her parents against Evelinaโs father.
Lemira followed Asher out.
Caspian turned to Lucian. โLucian, donโt you think Lemiraโs change of heart was too sudden? Could there be another reason?โ
Lemiraโs behavior was indeed odd and rather abrupt.
Lucian replied calmly, โWhatever Lemmyโs reasons are, as long as sheโs willing to return to the Langstons, thatโs all that matters.โ
Caspian looked at Alaric. โWeโve finally got Lemira to agree not to pursue our past misdeeds. No matter what happens, we have to support Lemira and not be fooled by Evelina, okay?โ
Alaric nodded. โI understand.โ
Recently, Evelina had been distant and cold, a stark contrast to her previous demeanor. It was clear she saw no further use for him, revealing her true colors.
Alaric had come to realize the extent of Evelinaโs deceit and how it had affected his relationship with Lemira.
At the party outside, when Lemira and Asher appeared arm in arm, it indeed shocked many, especially since the Langston familyโs quarrel had been public.
Asher broke the silence. โSorry to have you all witness our family dispute. Itโs all resolved now.โ
Someone asked pointedly, โSo, who actually wrote that script?โ
Lemira spoke up, โWell, of course, it was me. Right, Asher?โ
Asher knew Lemiraโs temper all too well. Siding with Evelina now could only invite disaster.
Finally, he nodded. โYes, Iโve clarified the matter. The script was indeed Lemiraโs solo work. I was mistaken before.โ
Evelinaโs eyes reddened with anger upon hearing Asherโs words.
