Evelina immediately retorted, “That’s impossible. My dad would have checked. If the brakes were tampered with, it had nothing to do with him. After all, he died trying to save your parents.”

Lemira’s smirk was unsettling as she replied, “I was merely speculating. Why are you so defensive?”

Standing next to Asher, Evelina said in a hurt tone, “Asher, I know I’m not the favorite around here, especially after Lemmy ran away. My brothers are even more resentful towards me. But I won’t back down when it comes to my dad. He died a hero.”

This was Evelina’s way of stirring Asher’s guilt.

Sure enough, Asher softened, comforting Evelina, “Eve, don’t worry. I won’t let anyone bully you while I’m here.”

“Asher, I know, but I’m just worried about Lemmy adjusting to being back home. After all, things got so heated with our brothers, we almost got the law involved.”

Evelina deliberately brought this up to poke at her brothers’ sore spot.

Lucian interrupted her, “Let’s put the past behind us. We’re siblings, aren’t we? No need to dredge up old grievances. It makes it seem like you’re trying to stir up trouble.”

Evelina quickly replied, feeling cornered, “Lucian, that wasn’t my intention.”

“Good,” Lucian continued. “Now that Lemmy is returning to the Langston family, you should probably move out of the room at the Orvin mansion. That’s Lemmy’s room.”

Evelina’s face fell at his words. She stuttered, glancing at Asher, “But Asher, you said that room was mine? I’ve never really had a room of my own, and you promised it to me.”

Asher cleared his throat, “There are plenty of rooms in the mansion. Lemira can choose another.”

Lemira’s lips curled coldly, “But the Orvin mansion was bought by our parents, right? They did say the room with the best view was mine.”

She wasn’t about to give up what was hers.

Lemira glanced at Evelina, “Even if you were to choose a room, it would only be from those unclaimed. My room is mine by right, and no one but my parents can change that.”

Asher frowned, “Lemira, all the rooms are the same. Let’s not make a big deal out of it.”

“Oh, so because I wasn’t there, my room suddenly becomes Evelina’s? Have some dignity!”

After Lemira’s remark, Evelina burst into tears.

Asher quickly came to her defense, “Lemira, you’re causing chaos in the Langston family on your first day back?”

Caspian chimed in, “Asher, this is all your fault for letting Evelina stay in Lemira’s room.”

Alaric added, “Asher, you’re the real troublemaker here.”

Lucian pointed out, “Asher, that room was left for Lemira by our parents. You had no right to offer it to Evelina.”

Lemira crossed her arms, “Mr. Asher, do you get it now? This is all on you.”

“Hmph, the Langston family doesn’t revolve around you!”

“But together, our shares outnumber yours, Asher. Whether Mr. Langston will still be in your hands is yet to be seen.”

Asher’s face turned pale.

Evelina stepped forward, “Lemira.”

Lemira snatched the necklace from around Evelina’s neck, “This was left to me by my mom. You think you’re worthy of it?”

She had noticed the necklace earlier and was about to forget this crucial detail.

The necklace left a red mark on Evelina’s neck as she responded loudly, “This was a gift from Asher.”

“He had no right to give away what’s mine.”

Asher quickly said, “Lemira, why be so petty?”

Lemira just laughed, stepping forward to straighten Asher’s tie, leaving him confused about her intentions.
