Chapter 146ย  Lemira tugged her lips, โ€œI did say.โ€ย  Lucianโ€™s face turned pale instantly, โ€œI mustโ€™ve been too caught up with work and forgot, Iโ€™m so sorry. Itโ€™s my fault for holding you back. Donโ€™t worry, the Langston Group has plenty of projects too, you can join in anytime.โ€ย  He couldnโ€™t bear the thought of Lemira joining another company.ย  Lemiraโ€™s clear eyes made Lucianโ€™s heart sink further. She spoke calmly, โ€˜Forget about it. I want to choose where I go.โ€ย  โ€œLemmy, I really forgot.โ€ย  Thaddeus immediately interrupted, โ€œWhat were you doing until now? Now that you realize how amazing she is, you regret it? Too late, she can go wherever she wants. Donโ€™t try to guiltโ€“trip her!โ€ย  cian was left speechless. He genuinely forgot.ย  Lemira didnโ€™t even glance at Lucian, turning to the manager instead, โ€œThe software testingโ€™s all good?โ€ย  โ€œItโ€™s fine, but the boss has the final say.โ€ย  The manager looked at Thaddeus, internally questioning how the boss seemed to know this technician. And the technician, seemed to be Ms. Langston! Whatโ€™s going on?ย  Thaddeus touched his nose, โ€œI think itโ€™s fine, but we should have the companyโ€™s consultant take a look.โ€ย  Orion put down the document he was holding, his gaze serene as he looked at Lemira, โ€œThe firewall is solid. Weโ€™ll encounter the same issue with the software upgrade, though, so itโ€™ll need your followโ€“up.โ€ย  Lemira nodded, โ€œI know. Itโ€™s related to the firewallโ€™s design. If it becomes too much of a hassle later, we can switch to a different firewall.โ€ย  โ€œThis firewall you designed is quite unique. If used rectly, itChapter 145ย  The meeting room was expressly quiet.ย  It wasnโ€™t just Lemira who was shell shocked, Orion hadnโ€™t expected to see her there either.ย  Thaddeus cleared his throat purposely, โ€œWell, isnโ€™t this a full house? Heard there was a snag with the firewall, so I thought Iโ€™d pop in to check.โ€ย  His initial plan was to stir up some trouble, but he hadnโ€™t banked on Lemira being the one to crack the code. That put a wrench in his plans.ย  The manager stood up, offering a respectful reply, โ€œIndeed, just a moment ago, Ms. Langston here ran some tests on the software. Everythingโ€™s ticking along nicely now. Anything else you reckon needs looking at?โ€ย  Thaddeus, feigning interest, grabbed the report and flipped through it without really seeing anything.ย  ter all, the firewall fiasco was nothing but a fabricated flaw, a strategic move to put the Langston Group in the hot seat.ย  After a cursory glance, Thaddeus turned to Orion, โ€œWhatโ€™s your take on this?โ€ย  It all hinged on Orionโ€™s verdict now.ย  Orion took the report and shot a surprised look at Lemira, โ€œYou sorted this out on your own?โ€ย  She nodded, โ€œYeah, itโ€™s a piece of cake, really.โ€ย  What threw her for a loop was discovering this company was Thaddeusโ€˜. So, all those late nights theyโ€™d been griping about were due to this softwareโ€™s firewall?ย  The firewall issue wasnโ€™t rocket science; it was more of a mental block. In her past life, sheโ€™d spent a good chunk of time pinpointing the crux of the issue, which was why she could fix it in a snap this time around.ย  Orionโ€™s tone was laced with casualty, โ€œIf itย  was such a simple fix, why couldnโ€™t your team handle it, instead of asking a high school grad to bail you out?โ€ His words dripped with sarcasm.ย  Lucianโ€™s face fell on spot. He hadnโ€™tย  Lucianโ€™s tone wasnโ€™t warm, โ€œBecause Lemmyย  Orion to be in the mix, looking every bit the silent partner if not the boss himself.ย  Wasย  part of the original project team. She was in charge of the firewall.โ€ย  Truth be told, heโ€™d never pegged Lemira as the solution to their problem.ย  Thaddeus couldnโ€™t resist a dig, โ€œSo, sheโ€™s that pivotal, huh? Young as she is, dabbling in software development, you shouldโ€™ve nurtured that talent. How did you end up burying such potential after just one project?โ€ย  Lucian was stumped. Right, why had he overlooked Lemiraโ€™s prowess?ย  He glanced at Hogan, seeking answers. Hogan replied in a low voice, โ€œBecause later Ms. Sterling wanted in too, but frankly, she was- out of her depth, just slowing things down. You sidelined Lemira in the name of fairness.โ€ย  Lucian went quiet upon hearing it. To cover his awkwardness, he reached for a glass of water, but accidentally choked on a gulp. He had never thought things would turn like that, unable to face Lemira.ย  Thaddeus caught the words; seizing the moment, he launched into a tirade, โ€œWow, talk about fairness! To accommodate a clueless outsider, you hamstrung your own flesh and blood, a truly gifted sister. Try selling that story.โ€ย  Lucianโ€™s grip on his glass faltered. His voice was hoarse, โ€œIโ€“I didnโ€™t think it much that time.โ€ย  โ€œOh, didnโ€™t think it much? Seems to me youโ€™ve thought plenty. What you did would make others think youโ€™re the good guy, adopting without favoritism. Youโ€™re seemingly acting someone good, but at what cost? You sacrificed Sweet Lemonโ€™s interest!โ€ย  Thaddeus had a knack for hitting where it hurt, his frustration boiling over.ย  Orion, now privy to the full story, felt a heavy weight in his chest. He turned to Lemira, โ€œItโ€™s not too late to start over. There are other projects, perfect for you.โ€ย  He was determined to make up for what she had missed since young. He owed her.ย  Lemiraโ€™s lips curled up, โ€œIโ€™m up for it.โ€ย  โ€œLemmy,โ€ Lucian interjected unwittingly, looking at Lemira in panic, โ€œyou could have spoken up if you were against it back then.โ€ย  If Lemira had voiced her concerns, he would have chosen differently.ย  1/1ย  ย will significantly enhance the gameโ€™s stability and be hard to imitate.ย  However, youโ€™ve overlooked one thing.โ€ย  Lemira and Orion discussed the firewall back and forth, leaving no room for others to chime in.ย  Lucian observed the confident and graceful smile on /emiraโ€™s face, so different from the Lemira he remembered.ย  He felt a sense of melancholy looking at Lemira, who had changed and grown so much. She was no longer the little sister following himโ€“around.ย  Thaddeus cleared his throat at this, โ€œAlright, discuss this privately later. If the firewallโ€™s fine, then letโ€™s proceed with the contract.โ€ย  For Sweet Lemonโ€™s sake, the contract would continue.ย  Lucian felt conflicted. Glancing at Orion, he knew this man wasnโ€™t just a simple school doctor. Yet, he still couldnโ€™t figure out what Orionโ€™s real story was.ย  Lemira hadnโ€™t expected this company to be connected to both Thaddeus and Orion.ย  The meeting room was filled with an awkward atmosphere. It felt like a failed blind date.ย  Suddenly, Lucian spoke up, โ€œSince the contract is signed, how about we celebrate with a meal?โ€ย  Orionโ€™s eyes narrowed slightly, remaining silent.ย  Lucian turned to Lemira, โ€œLemmy, this is your first project. Youโ€™ll get a share of the profits once it goes to market. I think itโ€™s a good idea for our companies to celebrate together ahead of time.โ€ย  Lemira noticed all eyes turned to her. She glanced at Thaddeus and Orion, wondering if she should refuse. After all, itโ€™s about company cooperation.ย  Orion saw Lemiraโ€™s hesitation and took the initiative, โ€œThatโ€™s fine.โ€ย  Seeing him agree, Lemira nodded as well, thinking it wouldnโ€™t hurt for a meal.ย  After deciding on the meal, the group headed to the restaurant.ย  Inside the large private room, Lucian first addressed Orion, โ€œDr. Everhart, I didnโ€™t expect someone with your professional background to have such diverse interests.โ€ย  Orionโ€™s tone was cool, โ€œWell, at least my family never suppresses my interests in the name of โ€˜fairnessโ€˜.โ€ย  Lemira curled her lips slightly, thinking he was clearly taking a jab at Lucian.ย  Unperturbed, Lucian countered, โ€œAnd what does you family do?โ€ย
