Chapter 361: An Indescribable Connection

The masked man held her tightly. “Once I learned about the terrorist attack here, I immediately flew back on a private jet. I’m sorry I wasn’t there for you during your most critical moment. You must have been really scared.”

With tears welling in her eyes, Raylee shook her head. “Don’t blame yourself. Whether you were here or abroad, you were always striving to save me. Still, I wished you would stay longer in our homeland, to spend more time with me. Considering my health condition, I’m not sure when the day will come that I’d suddenly breathe my last. In that final moment of my life, I hope to have you by my side.”

The masked man released her, somewhat irritated as he pinched her cute nose. “I won’t allow you to say such things. I’ve made it clear that I’m going to save your life!”

“But life and death are beyond our control, you know? If I could decide, I’d wish for both of us to live until a hundred.”

Raylee sniffled, forcing back the tears.

Right as they were having an intimate moment, Plumpy received a phone call and exclaimed in shock, “Bad news, Mr. Foucault, Ms. Somers! Mindy has been kidnapped by the terrorists!”

“What? Wasn’t she captured alive by our men? How did someone manage to steal her away?” Raylee thought she must have misheard. How does an insignificant woman like her get repeatedly taken away by others! This world seems a bit topsy-turvy. What is going on here?

Plumpy recounted the events. “Because Mindy was seriously injured, I had her taken to the hospital for treatment. However, a terrorist disguised as a nurse managed to break into the operating room. Just like that, right under our noses, they managed to sneakily whisk her away without anyone noticing!”

Seething with anger, the masked man exclaimed, “You’re so useless! You can’t even keep an eye on a single person! Forget it; there’s no need to focus on her. Even if this woman was taken away, she wouldn’t live long. Having consumed those drugs, death would be more of a relief for her.”

Raylee felt that Mindy was quite an incredible woman. Despite being stabbed numerous times by Waverly, she didn’t die and was even rescued by Maximus. She was then captured during the terrorist attack, yet she managed to escape unscathed. She has been taken away by others twice now. Could it be that she was naturally tenacious, and that her life wasn’t meant to end so easily?

“Ray-Ray, I need to go over the details of today’s terrorist attack. You should head to the hotel and rest with Plumpy. You’ve had quite a shock today,” the masked man said.

“Can I accompany you? I was involved in today’s terrorist attack, so I’m more familiar with some of the details,” Kaylee proposed. "All night."

Following that, the masked man found a nearby hotel and summoned the bodyguards and some of the people present. He then went over the events of the terrorist attack and proceeded to review the footage from all the surrounding cameras. The objective was singular—to confirm whether Maximus had been present at the scene of the attack.

Watching the video for what felt like forever, Kaylee’s eyes grew weary. Despite her efforts, she couldn’t spot him. Interestingly, the masked man found himself repeatedly watching the video of Zachary saving her.

5:10 PM

Chapter 361: An Indescribable Connection

The masked man shook his head. “No. It’s precisely because there is no issue that I feel there is one. Ray-Ray, was the man who took a knife for you your school’s doctor, Zachary Macaluso?”

Raylee nodded, giving him a puzzled look.

“He seemed to care a lot about you. It’s normal for a teacher to care about their students, but he’s just a school doctor. He only met you twice, yet he saved you both times. All in all, I find his appearance rather peculiar,” the masked man said, his tone becoming grave.

Raylee couldn’t discern whether the masked man was simply jealous or if there was another reason. Is he starting to suspect Mr. Macaluso?

Feeling puzzled, Raylee asked, “You’re looking for Maximus? How did your attention shift to Mr. Macaluso? Could it be because they all have the letter ‘M’ in their names? So, you think he is Maximus? That’s not a very reliable theory. Moreover, Mr. Macaluso’s silhouette is quite lean, which is completely different from Maximus. They couldn’t possibly be the same person.”

“I didn’t say they were the same person. I’ve looked into Zachary’s background. He’s clean.”

“Huh? You’ve even looked into his background?”

“Actually. I’ve run background checks of everyone around you.”

Raylee understood and said, “If his background is so simple, then why do you think there’s something wrong with him? I thought highly of Mr. Macaluso: he is truly a remarkable person. He saved me twice, and he was also a student of Percival. I felt an indescribable connection with him.”

The masked man suddenly turned his head, his voice sarcastic as he asked, “Oh? A significant connection, huh? So, Ms. Somers, if you share such a connection with him, do you think we might have one too?”
