Chapter 356: Professional Escape

Once again, two gunshots rang out. The bullets rained down with relentless intensity, and the scene was fraught with danger.

โ€œRay-Ray, be careful!โ€ Halston rushed over, using his body as a human shield; he positioned himself in front of Raylee.

โ€œMr. Mulligan, escort Ms. Somers toward the pedestrian street east of here. Leave this side to me!โ€ Plumpy instructed.

โ€œAll right!โ€ Halston quickly grabbed Rayleeโ€™s hand and said reassuringly, โ€œThis place is dangerous. Let me get you out of here. Donโ€™t be scared. Iโ€™m here with you! Iโ€™ll make sure youโ€™re safe!โ€

Raylee never expected Halston to step forward in such a critical moment. She had initially thought this green-haired punk was nothing more than a spoiled scion who lived only to engage in debauchery. She assumed he would cherish his life to the extent that he would be quick to flee in the face of danger. I suppose you really canโ€™t judge a book by its cover!

In that fleeting moment, Raylee perceived Halstonโ€™s hair, as green as it was, to be positively radiant.

Several more shots rang out. Engrossed in maintaining his dignity in front of Raylee, Halston let his guard down for a moment, and a bullet hit his shoulder. โ€œUrgh!โ€ He let out a stifled groan in pain.

Raylee asked worriedly, โ€œAre you all right?โ€

With gritted teeth, Halston forced himself to say, โ€œItโ€™s just one bullet, so what could possibly happen? Donโ€™t be scared; Iโ€™ll get you out of here!โ€

Having said that, he took hold of Raylee, starting to look for cover, waiting for the right opportunity to escape to a safe area. Raylee knew he was in great pain. Despite his nonchalant facade, the profuse sweat pouring down his forehead gave him away.

She furrowed her brows deeply. โ€œAre you really okay?โ€

โ€œDonโ€™t worry about me, Ray-Ray. As a man, taking a few bullets is nothing! Come on; follow my steps, and weโ€™ll get you out of hereโ€ฆ get you to the hospital immediately.โ€

Halston declined, saying, โ€œNo, itโ€™s too risky out there. Itโ€™s clear that a terrorist attack has taken place, with bullets flying everywhere! Plus, we have no idea how many terrorists there are. Letโ€™s first assess the situation, and then decide when to expose ourselves. We absolutely canโ€™t gamble with our own lives! You really donโ€™t need to worry about me. I let you donโ€™t know this, but my grandfather, my father, and my two brothers all served in the military. Despite my unruly appearanceโ€ฆ I was a retired soldier, you know?โ€

โ€œWhat? You were a soldier? I couldnโ€™t tell at all!โ€ Raylee was utterly surprised.

โ€œHey, whatโ€™s with that look? Got something against my hair? Iโ€™ll dye my hair back black one of these days so you can witness my true charm! Just you wait, I guarantee youโ€™ll be completely smitten!โ€ Halston flicked his vibrant green locks with a nonchalant expression.

Observing how Halston could still casually crack jokes despite his gunshot wound, Raylee couldnโ€™t help but cast another admiring glance at him.

None of the scions from the elite families in the Jexburgh circle were simple folk. Either they were rich and attractive, or they were brave and strategic. Halston was a complex mix of both good and bad traits. Back when he was in elementary school, he used to be the school bully, picking on students who were weaker than him. She had certainly suffered her fair share of his bullying. By the time he reached high school, he was forced to drop out because he got a girl pregnant. All sorts of questionable past deeds made it really hard to compare him with his current impressive image.

โ€œMs. Somers, are you all right?โ€ Plumpy had also made her way over. She had engaged in a fight with the terrorists earlier. However, out of concern for Rayleeโ€™s safety, she decided to step back and let the bodyguards handle the situation. Her primary focus was to protect Raylee. If anything were to happen to Raylee, she wouldnโ€™t know how to explain it to Leonardo. While she stood guard in front of Raylee, she was simultaneously on the phone with the masked man, updating him about the situation on the scene.

โ€œMr. Foucault, it appears that only three individuals were involved in this terrorist attack, each one of them armed. We were intercepted on our way out of the hospital, so itโ€™s hard to tell if the other party was simply orchestrating a terror attack, or if they were specifically targeting Ms. Somers. Donโ€™t worry, Ms. Somers is right by my side and sheโ€™s currently unharmed. I assure you. Iโ€™ll do everything within my power to protect herโ€ฆ
