“Please, save me…” Mindy strained to lift her hand, fiercely gripping the man’s sleeve. Her intense desire to survive had her constantly pleading for mercy.
“All right; I’ll save you. From this moment on, you’re part of my family. I’m taking you home!”
The man’s voice was a low, husky murmur; his clothes stained with fresh blood, but he seemed utterly indifferent to it. Subsequently, he pulled out a steel seal from his pocket. After heating up a lighter, he swiftly lifted Mindy’s clothes and forcefully left a mark on her lower back. Hiss! The heated steel seal made contact with flesh, emanating a sound and scent akin to searing meat.
Already teetering on the brink of death, Mindy instantly succumbed to the pain and passed out. After waiting for several minutes, the man finally removed the steel seal, revealing a vivid red mark with the letters “WC.”
Meanwhile, Raylee, who was sound asleep in the hospital room, was abruptly woken by Plumpy’s hurried cries.
“Ms. Somers, the woman you had me keep tabs on—Mindy—has met with a disaster. She’s dead! Waverly killed her! This is the surveillance camera footage that I managed to get hold of. Take a look.”
Excited as if she had taken a stimulant, Kaylee quickly scrambled to her feet. After watching the surveillance footage, she was stunned. She had never imagined that Waverly would have the audacity to commit murder. She had assumed that this dog-eat-dog duo would have lasted a bit longer. Unexpectedly, one of them had already been bitten to death.
“Ms. Somers, I’m proficient in lip-reading. I know what Waverly said to Mindy at the scene,” said Plumpy. She then provided the translation, saying, “The general idea is that Waverly used to work in a nightclub, and she was openly available for rent, having been kept by numerous men in the past. She had always been involved with various men, using her own body as a means to earn money. Once Mindy became aware of her unsavory past, she exploited these scandals, constantly blackmailing her and demanding money. She hid it so well that even I couldn’t uncover her secret.”
Kaylee was greatly shocked.
“Why hadn’t you discovered Waverly’s fascinating past before? If you could dig up information on Mindy’s entire lineage, then why couldn’t you do the same for Waverly? Did she have some sort of superpower? How did she manage to conceal her past so thoroughly?”
Plumpy replied, “She must have sought out a professional to erase all traces of her past and reinvent her identity. She even had some minor cosmetic surgery. There was indeed such a service in the black market, but only a few underground organizations could pull it off. It required not only connections but also a hefty fee.”
Baylee was hit by a sudden realization. “Who would have thought that Waverly had so many tricks up her sleeve!”
“Ms. Somers, there’s an even more important secret I need to share with you,” Plumpy said, her expression turning serious as she continued. “Waverly is not the real heiress of the Goodridge family. She’s actually an impostor. When she was verifying her family ties, she bribed the doctor to switch the DNA reports. After pulling some strings behind the scenes, she successfully convinced the Goodridge family that she was their legitimate daughter.”

In a fit of resentment, Raylee’s fist slammed onto the hospital bed. Wow, fate is not only the creator but also the master of playing tricks on people. Who would have thought that one prominent young lady currently residing in the Goodridge residence was nothing more than an impostor? I wonder how Samuel will react upon learning the truth? However, our technicians managed to capture some footage. In a secluded alleyway a kilometer away, a man was seen cradling an injured woman before they boarded a black car. The man’s appearance was indiscernible, but he had a notably slender figure,” said the bewildered Plumpy.
