Chapter 334: It Was an Accident
“Based on the clues I’ve gathered, it’s highly likely that Maximus is the one returning this time. I’ve already set up the highest level of defense, so make sure you protect Raylee well,” the masked man cautioned.
“Maximus?” Plumpy was so startled that her eyes nearly popped out of their sockets. “That piece of trash actually dared to return and stir up trouble? He was lucky that the bullet didn’t take his life back then! If we cross paths again this time, I will go all out to take his life!”
The masked man nodded. “I’m worried that Raylee could be the objective of Maximus’s current return. Otherwise, I can’t think of any other reason he’d etch WC’s symbol on her lower back. Regardless, this can’t be good.”
In response to her boss’s concerns, Plumpy confidently reassured him, saying, “As long as I’m here, Maximus won’t be able to harm Ms. Somers. Rest assured, I will protect Ms. Somers, and I will also take Maximus’s life.”
The masked man felt at ease with Plumpy in charge. After all, Plumpy was the most outstanding among all of his bodyguards. If it weren’t for her overly striking physique, which made her stand out in the crowd, he would have certainly recruited her to lead his private militia.
Raylee wasn’t the only one who spent that night without sleep, though. Upon hearing the news that Mindy had been attacked with sulfuric acid, Waverly rushed to the hospital immediately. Upon seeing Mindy’s severely disfigured face inside the hospital ward, Waverly was so terrified that she let out a scream right then and there.
“Mindy, what happened to you? My goodness! Your face looks terrifying! What did the doctor say? Is there any hope? Why were you splashed with sulfuric acid? Who did this to you?” she asked in a state of panic.
Just yesterday, Mindy declared her intentions of avenging me by splashing sulfuric acid on Raylee. How did she end up getting splashed instead?
Mindy firmly grasped Waverly’s arm. Because her mouth was seared by sulfuric acid, she could only emit muffled sounds as she said, “It was Raylee. She broke into my room in the middle of the night and splashed sulfuric acid on my face. You must avenge me.”
“All right, all right… Don’t worry; I promise to help you seek justice. I will ensure you’re treated regardless of the cost, and I’ll help you report this to the police.”
While Waverly was consoling Mindy, she also called her a fool in her head. There’s no doubt about it! This fool must have tried to splash sulfuric acid on Raylee, only to have the tables turned on her in retaliation!
Before long, police officers arrived to take a statement. In her bout of insomnia, Raylee too found herself in the emergency room of the hospital. After all, her hand had also been splashed with sulfuric acid. Although her injuries weren’t severe, they didn’t deter her from gawking at Mindy’s ghastly appearance after having her face disfigured. While there, she also assisted the police officers by giving a statement.
The moment Mindy saw Raylee, she became emotionally stirred up, almost to the point of madness, yet the intense pain she was experiencing prevented her from leaving her hospital bed.
Raylee innocently shook her head. “I went straight home after I left campus last night, officers. You can check my home surveillance cameras.”
“Cut the crap! There are surveillance cameras in my hallway too. If anyone’s footage is to be checked, it would be from my end! I even have an eyewitness who can testify for me!” Mindy lashed out. She then turned toward the male model and continued, “Johnny, hurry up and tell them! It was this woman who threw sulfuric acid at me, wasn’t it? Tell them everything you saw!”
Johnny, who had spent the night with Mindy, had also accompanied her to the hospital. However, he shrank back timidly, his head lowered in denial as he said, “I didn’t see anything. I was fast asleep when it happened, only to be rudely awakened by a series of horrific screams. When I came to…”
He glanced at Mindy, then continued in a hushed tone, “I saw her holding a bottle of some unidentified liquid. She told me she had accidentally applied sulfuric acid to her face, thinking it was a lotion, and urged me to call an ambulance immediately.”

“Are you for real? You ungrateful jerk! I’ve been spending a hundred thousand a month on you, and this is how you repay me?” Mindy was livid; disregarding the intense pain on her face, she leapt from the bed and furiously scratched at Johnny’s mouth. “I’ll tear your mouth apart if you continue to spout nonsense!”
The few police officers immediately separated the two. “That’s enough! We will investigate the truth of the matter. We won’t wrongfully accuse any innocent person, and certainly, we won’t let any wrongdoers go unpunished.”
After going through the entire process at the hospital, the police officers left. Johnny was also scared off by Mindy’s fierce behavior. Mindy wanted to tear Raylee to pieces, but she wasn’t able to do so. As her earlier actions had been too reckless, the wound on her face had split open. The pain was so intense that she was on the verge of passing out.
