Chapter 319: Calling Her Out
Margaret had returned home, and upon seeing Waverlyโs makeup smeared by tears, she instantly felt a wave of disgust.
โSo, itโs you? Waverly, didnโt your family teach you anything about decency or manners? You arenโt even part of this family yet, and you barged into my home causing a ruckus, even knocking over our housekeepers! Do you realize that I could report you for trespassing on private property? Well, I suppose you are a country bumpkin through and through, with no sense of propriety. Whoever ends up with a daughter-in-law like you is truly unfortunate!โ Margaret scolded harshly.
Listening to Margaretโs scornful words, repeatedly calling her a country bumpkin, Waverly was undoubtedly enraged. She wished she could march right up and silence this old womanโs incessant chatter, but she dared not show her anger, nor did she dare behave inappropriately.
โJust you wait! One day, Iโll get my revenge! Right now, I need to bide my time and wait until Iโm married into the Sutherland family and thoroughly secure my position. Letโs see how Iโll deal with you then!โ
She clenched her fists tightly; her face was streaked with tears as she sobbed pitifully. โMom, youโre finally back! Casimir has been avoiding me all this time, so I had no other choice but to barge in! I have something urgent to discuss with him.โ
Margaret, with an air of superiority, took a seat on the sofa and let out a heavy huff. โDonโt call me โMom!โ Weโre not that close! Casimir is quite busy at the moment. If you have any concerns, you can tell me, and Iโll relay the message.โ
โHe isnโt busy at all! Heโs just upstairs in his room, purposefully avoiding me! Mom, I beg you, could you please let Casimir come down and see me? Iโm still his fiancรฉe, after all. If he had any dissatisfaction with me, he could just tell me directly. I can change. Heโs avoiding me now, treating me with such cold indifference. Itโs truly unbearable, Iโm really hurtingโฆโ Waverly sobbed, her body shaking with each cry.
Listening to Waverlyโs sobs, Margaret remained unmoved and barked angrily, โEnough already! Youโre crying as if someone died! No one in my family has passed away, so why are you crying like this? You spent all day doing nothing but shedding tears. I bet youโve cried away all the fortune and luck from our home!โ
Waverly immediately held back her tears, but her voice came out choked and stuttered as she said, โMom, I only cried because I was very upset. If you donโt like it, I promise I wonโt cry easily in the future, okay?โ
She held herself in an extremely humble manner, her demeanor so subservient it was as if she was moments away from kneeling down to admit her wrongs.
However, Margaret was not having any of it at all. She looked at Waverly with a displeased expression, her gaze sweeping her from head to toe. Her tone was thick with disdain as she said, โThat night at the party, when you embarrassed yourself and Ms. Tiffany tore your clothes up, the talk of it spread everywhere. Everyone was treating you like a joke. You even aided the culprit who harmed Tiffany in her escape, landing yourself in custody. Your father paid a hefty price to bail you out. All these scandals have become public knowledge. Do you really think the Sutherland family would still accept you after all thatโs happened? More importantly, there is absolutely no emotional connection between you and Casimir. Learn to read the room, will you? If a man doesnโt love you, then let him go. Donโt keep clinging onto him!โ
โNo! Mom, I know Iโve done a lot of foolish things that have embarrassed us. Consider it as my ignorance, having never been hit hard by the realities of life. Could you give me a chance to make amends? I believe that feelings can be nurtured. As long as I stay devoted to Casimir, he will eventually fall in love with me. Mom, I beg you, please donโt separate Casimir and me, okay?โ Waverly pleaded.
Margaret had never encountered such a shameless woman before. Sheโs such a relentless nuisance! If it werenโt for the elders at home disagreeing, the engagement would have been called off ages ago! Instead of wasting my breath on this shameless scoundrel, I would have had the bodyguards throw her out by now!
Margaret was seething, pointing at her and launching into a tirade. โTalk about pushing your luck. Do you really want me to spell it out for you? Youโre nothing but a jinx! How many years has it been since you returned to the Goodridge family, andโฆ (The text cuts off here)."
