Chapter 302: A Greater Force Behind the Scenes

Tiffany was on the verge of a breakdown. Fifty-one percent of her ordeal was finished. Her mother, Rosalind, had been on vacation when her best friend, traveling with her, showed her the scandal involving Tiffany. In her urgency, Rosalind rushed back overnight. The moment she stepped through the door, she saw Tiffany throwing things around in a fit of rage. The room was practically in ruins.

“Calm down! You are the eldest daughter of the Lorimer family, so why are you causing a scene like a shrew?” Rosalind scolded angrily.

Tiffany was livid, her entire being like a ball of fire, seemingly on the verge of spewing flames.

“How could I stay calm? The incident of me being [redacted] by five men has been spreading far and wide, even reaching foreign countries! Not only did I lose my dignity, but I’ve also tarnished the reputation of the Lorimer family! Dad would kill me if he found out!”

Rosalind pondered and said, “Such matters should just be handled by the public relations department of Lorimer Group. If we can’t contain this scandal any longer, your dad will definitely get angry. We need to handle this quickly while he’s still away on his business trip. You can rest assured that we’ve dealt with far worse situations than this before, so there’s no doubt we can handle it now.”

In the country, the public relations department of the Lorimer family was practically omnipotent. There were always some troublemakers within the family. Be it family matters or business affairs, they were able to handle everything flawlessly.

“They’re nothing but a bunch of good-for-nothings! They claimed they had it under control, but then, suddenly, they said they couldn’t handle it anymore. They’re so useless! I wouldn’t have lost my temper like that if it weren’t for those useless fools!” Tiffany exploded, much like a barrel of gunpowder that had been set alight.

Rosalind voiced her disbelief, saying, “There are thousands of employees in Lorimer Group’s public relations department. It’s one of the most powerful, both domestically and internationally, so how could we possibly not hold our own? Could there be a greater force behind the scenes, driving this matter?”

Upon reflecting deeply on this matter, it felt akin to a bottomless abyss, a profoundly terrifying thought when contemplated thoroughly.

After calming down a bit, Tiffany also realized that something was amiss. “Who could be the mastermind behind the scenes? The only ones capable of messing with the Lorimer family must be those foreign forces.”

“If things are as we suspect, then the situation has become serious. It would require your father’s intervention,” Rosalind said, her brow furrowed.

Tiffany clenched her fists. “Even if there are other forces messing with me, it wouldn’t change the fact that the Goodridge family is the original instigator! Had I not attended the Goodridge family’s banquet, I…”

Tiffany clenched her teeth and vowed that she would absolutely not let those two fake friends off the hook.

Meanwhile, another sleepless night had passed at the Goodridge residence. Mindy was apprehended, and Waverly, who had provided funds to aid her escape, was also arrested on charges of harboring a fugitive. The fact that the little princess of the Goodridge family had been imprisoned only added insult to injury to the already chaotic Goodridge family. Alaric, Harriet, and Samuel had barely slept for the past two days.

On the night of the banquet, Samuel had to leave the charity sale early. This was due to him dislocating his hand and needing to go to the hospital, as well as looking into the matter of the three hundred million. He never could have known that such a serious incident would occur after he left. He personally checked the footage from the surveillance cameras to investigate the incident that night, only to discover that it had been completely erased by someone. He had a lingering feeling that there was more to this than meets the eye.

Alaric was seething, his eyes practically spitting fire as he paced anxiously back and forth in the room. “I always said that so-called best friend of Wavy’s was no good news. I urged Wavy to cut ties with her, but now look what’s happened! Wavy’s been dragged into trouble because of her!”

Harriet was so heartbroken that her tears streamed down her face. “Wavy is deeply attached to Mindy, so their bond is strong. She didn’t want to abandon her, and I couldn’t persuade her otherwise.”

“Bringing this up now is pointless. Wavy is gentle and kind-hearted, so how could she possibly endure being in a place like a detention center? Every time I think of her being in fear and terror, it feels like a knife is cutting my heart up.”

Upon witnessing this scene, Samuel, for reasons unknown, suddenly had an image of Raylee appear in his mind. Alaric and Harriet didn’t have such a strong reaction when she was arrested. Even though there was worry and anxiety, it was mainly about the possibility of Raylee dragging the Goodridge family into trouble. They were trying their best to disengage themselves from the situation. It was such a stark contrast. Upon comparing the two, he suddenly found Raylee to be rather pitiful back then. Ironically, at that time, his heart was completely invested in Waverly, utterly oblivious to the fact that he had let Raylee down.
