Chapter 282: Why Have You Showed Up Uninvited
Upon seeing the Mulligan family heir, his face full of fear and determination, Raylee burst into laughter. โYou fool! Do you think Iโm some sort of terrorist, causing explosions wherever I go?โ
A week later, the Goodridge familyโs charity sale was held in a luxurious hotel. Raylee had specifically applied exquisite makeup for the banquet. She wore a strapless long dress, which highlighted her ethereal elegance and accentuated her curvacious figure. Her features were delicate, her lips a glossy red. Her skin was as white as a porcelain doll, flawless and immaculate. At first glance, she was so beautiful, it was as if a fairy had stepped right out of a painting. She stood by Halstonโs side, attending as his female companion.
As soon as she stepped into the charity saleโs venue, nearly everyone present cast her admiring glances. Women envied her figure and stunning looks. The menโs eyes sparkled with excitement; their faces were like those of smitten fools, as if they wished they could remove their eyeballs and embed them on her face to watch her more closely.
Basking in the admiring gazes of everyone around him, Halston felt a profound sense of accomplishment. At the same time, he was overcome with a sense of urgency. Without delay, he took off his suit jacket and draped it over Rayleeโs shoulders.
โI never imagined that just a touch of makeup could enhance your beauty so remarkably. If I had known, I would have preferred you to come as you used to on campus, with a bare face. No, no, youโre equally beautiful with or without makeup. Youโre alluring with makeup and pure when bare-faced. Youโve mastered both realms effortlessly!โ
Raylee handed him back his jacket, huffing, โIโm not your girlfriend, so why do you care whether I dress up or not?โ
โYou may not be my girlfriend now, but I am confident that sooner or later, youโd fall for my handsome looks and profound depth,โ Halston declared confidently.
Raylee shot him a glance before walking away without a second thought. She had made an effort to dress up tonight, but it wasnโt simply to please herself. It wasnโt about showing off her rejuvenated appearance and physique. Basically, she was purely here to cause trouble for the real heiress of the Goodridge family. Stealing the spotlight was something she absolutely loved doing.
Upon seeing her, Alaric and Harriet immediately approached and gently guided her to a less crowded area. Harriet looked her up and down, her expression revealing astonishment as she said, โRay-Ray, youโveโฆ I was wondering what you could have possibly turned into. I never expected, though, that youโd become even more attractive than before you were imprisoned.โ
Of all the topics to bring up, they had to mention the time she spent in prison. Raylee wore an expressionless face and didnโt engage Harriet in conversation, leaving her feeling as if she was left out.
Harriet questioned again, โAs far as I know, Wavy didnโt invite you. Why have you showed up uninvited?โ
Alaric let out a deep humph. โWhat other reason could there possibly be? Sheโs clearly here to stir up trouble! Raylee, donโt think for a second that Iโm oblivious to your schemes! A few days ago, the warehouse on the outskirts was burgled, and our home was bombed. You used Halston as a scapegoat, but you were the real mastermind behind those incidents! I took our father-daughter relationship into consideration and chose not to hold you accountable. However, youโd better not push your luck again! Heed my advice and quit while youโre ahead!โ
Raylee glanced at him sideways, her beautiful face revealing a hint of a mocking smile. โYou took our father-daughter relationship into consideration? Pfftโฆ Spare me that crap! Return my grandmaโs safe, or Iโll make sure your precious daughterโs charity sale doesnโt happen! Youโd be wise not to underestimate my destructive power. If I can blow up your coffee and liquor cabinets, I can certainly do the same to your precious daughter!โ
โIf you dare harm Wavy, then donโt blame me for showing no mercy!โ Harriet warned.
โWeโre neither kin nor kith, so why would I expect any mercy from you? Enough with your nonsense; all I want is the safe!โ Raylee said, her tone indifferent and cold.
Seeing as Raylee was acting like a mad dog, Alaric had no choice but to concede. โFine, itโs yours. Once the charity sale is over and Iโm sure you havenโt caused any trouble, Iโll hand you the safe!โ
โDonโt try to fool me, Mr. Goodridge. Iโve got plenty of time on my hands, so you canโt outplay me!โ Raylee warned, as she picked up a charity item from the table. It was the silver spoon that Waverly had once used. Raylee directly bent it with her bare hands. Given how effortless she made it seem, it felt as though she wasnโt holding a silver spoon, but rather a fragile plastic one.
Both Alaric and Harriet were left astounded. My goodness! How did she become so strong all of a sudden? In these days, strength was the most persuasive power. A sense of dread suddenly filled Alaric and Harriet.
