Chapter 236: Reigniting a Dead Heart
โIโll discuss the matter of breaking off the engagement with both our parents later,โ Casimir remarked, quickly entering the bathroom to change his clothes. He then took Raylee by the hand and left the Goodridge residence. No matter how Waverly tried to stop him, no matter how she cried out, he never looked back.
Samuel, with Waverly in his embrace, comforted her, saying, โWeโre better off without such a heartless and disloyal man, Wavy.โ Waverly forcefully pushed him away, her gaze filled with resentment as it locked onto his.
โDidnโt you say that Casimir wouldnโt dare to call off our engagement? Didnโt you say you would deal with him, ensuring he couldnโt leave the Goodridge residence? But what about now? He openly left with that vixen! Hurry up and stop him!โ she demanded loudly.
Samuel shook his head. โIโll deal with him in time, but Raylee was right about one thing. True happiness cannot be forced. Casimirโs heart isnโt with you. Even if you forcibly keep him by your side, your life still wouldnโt be filled with happiness.โ
โArgh!โ Waverly let out a hysterical shriek. โYouโre such a coward! You just stood by and watched the man I love run off with another woman! You did nothing to help me! I despise you! If you wonโt help me, then Iโll find a way to help myself! If I canโt have that man, then that vixen canโt either!โ
After that outburst, Waverly ran out of the room in tears. Samuel was left dumbfounded by her scolding. This was his first time witnessing Waverly in such a state of hysteria. She actually sees me as a coward? I have cared for her so tenderly and showered her with so much affection. How could she speak of me like this?
It took a while for Samuel to regain his composure. Worried for Waverlyโs safety, he hastily ran after her. Casimir, holding Rayleeโs hand, left the Goodridge residence. Upon nearing Goodridge Manor, Raylee broke away from him, her entire demeanor radiating a palpable sense of distance.
A glimmer of disappointment flashed in Casimirโs eyes as he asked, โDo the words you said at the Goodridge residence earlier still hold true? About getting married to me, I mean.โ
Raylee nodded and replied, โYes; Iโm willing to marry you because you chose me in front of them all.โ
โBut you donโt love me, do you?โ
โThatโs not important. Iโm going back to be with Grandma now. As for the Goodridge family, youโll have to figure out a way to handle the aftermath!โ Raylee said indifferently.
โDonโt worry; I can handle them. I wonโt let anyone from the Goodridge family harm you. I know that what you said earlier at the Goodridge residence wasnโt your true feelings, but I want to take a gamble. I want to seize this opportunity to end things with Waverly and win your heart back,โ Casimir declared sincerely.
Raylee fell into a moment of silence. Casimir gazed at her with unwavering determination as he continued, โIโll wait for you to fall in love with me again. Time will show you that your choice was right, and so was mine.โ
Raylee didnโt directly respond to his statement. Instead, she asked, โCasimir, do you truly love me?โ
โI do!โ Casimir declared resolutely.
โAll right, then. I wonโt let you lose,โ Raylee said, her smile light and breezy.
His indifference was deeply hurtful, often leading her to question the meaning of life. This time, however, his love had become incredibly passionate, and it was genuine. Since his release from prison, he had been showering her with sweet nothings, one after another, to the point where she thought her ears would develop diabetes from hearing it all. That stark contrast stirred a sense of excitement within Rayleeโs heart.
Could the heart I thought had died within me truly reignite? Honestly, Iโm not sure if I can do this. There is one thing I am certain of though. I have absolutely no regrets about my actions today! After all, whatโs not to love about the opportunity to exact revenge and reclaim the man one never truly had before?
Meanwhile, at the Goodridge residence, Waverly once again staged a perilous and life-threatening stunt. As she stood atop the railing of the mansionโs highest level, Samuel and all the housekeepers were urging her not to lose hope. Upon their return, Alaric and Harriet were confronted with such a shocking scene, which left them utterly terrified. Upon learning about the dayโs events, both of them were fuming with anger.
Both furious and worried, Harriet pleaded through her tears, โWavy, you need to come down quickly! With Mom and Dad around, you wonโt have to deal with Casimir on your own. Weโll definitely ensure justice is served!โ
Waverly was reduced to tears, standing in the cold wind, on the verge of collapse. โI donโt seek justice! All I want is Casimir! Without him, my existence in this world holds no meaning! Why would Raylee treat me like this? She has already hogged Casimir for eighteen years! She stole my life away, and now she wants to steal the man I love most too. Does she begrudge my happiness? Does she only find joy in my demise?โ
Wiping away her tears, Harriet, her face full of sorrow, comforted her, saying, โIt was my fault, Wavy. I chose the worst time to go on a trip. If I had been home, I would never have allowed Raylee to treat you like that. Can you please come down? Weโll resolve this issue together. Iโll have Raylee come over and apologize to you in person!โ
She then turned around and chastised Samuel, asking, โYou were at home, so why didnโt you stand up for your sister? Why did you let Raylee bully my darling?โ
