Chapter 83

Dowson didn’t change his shoes, so Autumn dismissed the idea of going home to get shoe covers. She had already been here twice, and each time, the entire place was spotless. Clearly, someone had cleaned it every day.

Truthfully, she had been here alone before. So, she felt a bit uncomfortable with Dawson here this time. However, the discomfort was at a manageable level.

Autumn first set down the bag containing his suit, then carried the supper to the dining table. She naturally unpacked it as if she did this all the time.

After washing his hands, Dawson sat at the table.

“Mr. Fullmer, enjoy your meal. Good night,” Autumn said.

No sooner had he finished than he prepared to leave. But Dawson said coolly, “There’s too much. I can’t finish it all.”

Even though Autumn had ordered only half the usual amount—Dawson had originally ordered enough for four people—even half was still too much for one person. Autumn just wanted to go home and rest. She hesitated, wondering if she should decline. But Dawson had already picked up his fork and looked away from her.

In the end, she didn’t refuse. Declining once or twice was fine, but doing it too much might seem rude. It was just supper, after all.

Autumn sat across from Dawson and silently picked up the disposable fork. She had only eaten half a meal before the banquet, followed by intense, focused work, so she was genuinely hungry. Thus, she slowly ate the nutritious meal.

Though they didn’t talk, she didn’t feel awkward in the slightest. In fact, she felt fairly relaxed. Across from her, Dawson was picking at the food, leaving much untouched. Did he not like the taste?

Autumn had a good memory. Most of the food was what Dawson had ordered before, so she realized she had made a mistake. The things he didn’t eat were probably what he and the others preferred. It seemed Dawson was rather considerate, because he even accounted for his friends’ preferences when ordering.

Autumn thought they would remain silent, but Dawson suddenly asked, “Why was Britney giving you trouble?”

“Because I made her angry.”

It was clear this wasn’t the answer Dawson wanted. After all, Britney had a temper that was easily ignited. Sometimes, even the hot weather might set her off.

“She told me Damien wants me to resign within a day and stop going to work from this coming Monday onward.”

Damien didn’t get along with Dawson. From this point of view, that demand made perfect sense. “She ignored Bray, so she got mad,” Autumn added.

“Why did you ignore her?” Dawson asked.

“Because we have nothing worth talking about.”

Dawson went speechless, so they fell silent again.

After a while, Autumn suddenly glanced at Dawson. Since he had given her his coat, he was now only wearing the black shirt underneath it. The slim fit showed off his broad shoulders. Though she couldn’t see his waist because they were sitting down, she remembered how trim it was. That, along with the faint outlines of his chest and biceps, gave him a distinctly masculine, sculpted allure. Two buttons on his shirt were undone, revealing a pair of sharp collarbones and an Adam’s apple.

Even though Dawson was very quiet, and she was sitting across from him, she still felt there was a huge gap between them. But all of a sudden, she had a feeling that he probably didn’t.

Thus, she spoke again. “Mr. Faulkner, I won’t be signing…”

Five seconds had passed after her previous sentence. Dularium couldn’t help but look. “…you pledging your loyalty to me? You think you are because of that?”

“No, that’s not it. It’s just that what Damien wants doesn’t matter to me anymore.”

Autumn was just waiting for the coming days. Then, she and Damien would have nothing to do with each other.

After she spoke, the thought that Dawson might respond crossed her mind. But he only remained seated. Altogether, she was definitely older. After all, why would a child care about such things?

Not long after, Autatie’s photo sized–jamie lud transferred her 10,000 dollars. That exact amount was transferred to Damon, which prompted him to glance at his phone.
