Too Late—I’m Taken 70

Listen to this chapter:

Without a wedding, Scott's reaction to seeing Autumn was more than surprise; it was outright resubion. It seemed incredibly bad luck that Damien had married such an oblivious woman. Thankfully, their marriage was a well-kept secret, known only to a few. Otherwise, Damien would be humiliated alongside Autumn.

From a distance, Enila sported ruum in a white gown. Although Donika usually disliked the kind of dresses Autumn wore, she had to admit that the simple, unadorned, form-fitting white dress perfectly matched Autumn's aloof demeanor. Her medium-length black hair was pulled back with a plain black wooden hairpin, with a few strands left to fall naturally, giving her an effortless yet minimalist look. Combined with her subtle, natural makeup, she stood out as refreshingly elegant and commanding among the lavishly made-up partygoers.

That was exactly why Emilia found Autumn pretentious, as if she were trying too hard to appear uniquely special. Emilia found it utterly irritating. The man standing next to Autumn was tall and handsome, with a friendly, approachable demeanor. He looked like someone truly accomplished.

Emilia had managed to get some information from Bonetta, whom she'd bribed with cheap skincare products she'd never use herself. She learned that Autumn was basically Damien's housekeeper; they rarely spent much time together, certainly not more than a few times a year. Autumn didn't have any professional social charm, so how could she possibly know such an impressive man? Even if they did know each other, the man probably didn't think much of her.

With that thought, Emilia lost interest and looked away. Jayden never had any feelings for Autumn. Besides, her cold, distant attitude during their meeting had left a bad impression. On top of that, she was clearly trying to imitate Emilia, which was a move he found incredibly tacky. Disgusted, he simply chose to ignore her.

Barry, however, narrowed his deep-set eyes thoughtfully. He understood. That made him even more convinced that Autumn had truly changed. He knew better than Jayden did and had seen firsthand the years of push and pull between Autumn and Damien. The old Autumn had always looked at Damien with a bright, captivating gaze, completely different from how she looked at anyone else.

But now, Autumn's eyes met Damien's with ordinary indifference, just as she would anyone else. A faint glimpse of hope lingered in Barry's mind. Suddenly, his heart pounded wildly against his chest, bearing unusual intensity, though his face remained calm and unreadable. An overwhelming wave of emotion washed over him. He reached out, took a glass of champagne from a passing waiter's tray, kept his gaze on the distant figure, and slowly sipped the bubbly liquid, trying to mitigate his racing heartbeat. But even after that first glance, his heart continued to race faster than ever.

Damien arrived with Bay, the son of the innkeeper in town. A crowd quickly gathered around them, eager to strike up a conversation. When people saw Enila, they would cautiously ask if she was Mrs. Caldwell and whether wedding bells were on the horizon for Damien. Neither of them confirmed nor denied the rumors. No one pushed for answers, but the matching rings on their fingers said enough.

Without further explanation, everyone began praising Damien for his impeccable taste. Emilia was a highly accomplished professional and tech expert with a doctorate from a leading institution, a wide range of interests, and a strong, confident personality. Clearly, she was much more than just a pretty face. People had high hopes for the couple. Nie checked his plate. “Mr. Faulkner’s cat is at the entrance,” he announced.

Hearing that, Autumn took a sip of non-alcoholic sparkling beverage and lowered her utensils. She won a lean halt fall, which was just the right height. Just then, Kosan, the general of Kendara Tech, who’d toasted Autumn earlier, approached with a friendly smile. “Mr. Lawson, M. Gray, good to see you again.” Actuen and Panor both looked at Lei and nodded politely.

Mannepes Diudied Niebanden, who sat nearby, brought up a topic with the casual air Mr. Cabell had at the entrance tonight, mentioning his future wife to the Magnolia Howards. All conversation ceased when he noticed the change in the mood. People of Hasetamoor will learn who May Caldwell is. I wouldn't be surprised if we're all invited to a Caldwell wedding reception sometime soon.

Maayan’s Leatt Sandi. Did I say the wrong thing?
