Chapter 69
Jamie knew Autumn was capable of managing her emotions, but he still couldn't help worrying about her. He looked at her. To his surprise, Autumn unhesitatingly met his gaze.
The fact that she wasn't fleeing when the door was open—just seeing him would have opened old wounds—it made sense that she had amended her mindset. Time had passed, and she’d slowly begun to heal.
At any rate, obtaining a divorce didn't mean they'd never cross paths again. They still needed to interact. In Autumn's line of sight was Lumilia.
The sight of Damien, Barry, and Jayden—three tall, handsome, and distinguished men—in the distance trailed after Damien. He was undeniably attractive, but Autumn didn't spare him a second glance.
Emilia was walking between Busden and Jayden. She was dressed in a stunning ensemble. She was at the art house with Damien to finalize the paperwork. If she couldn’t even bear to see him,
her crystal-encrusted dress sparkled brilliantly, paired with exquisitely crafted jewelry that made her shine. Even from a distance, she looked effortlessly elegant. Katunj was well aware of the tens of millions Britney had mentioned being spent on the ensemble. It wasn’t just Damien who had put thought into it; Christine had, too. Autumn had already come to terms with it long ago.
She gave them a brief glance, then looked away. Jamie noticed that Autumn didn’t seem bothered, but even so, he stepped forward, subtly positioning himself between her and Damien’s group.
It wasn’t just about shielding her from potential discomfort. He’d also caught the unfriendly looks his friends were throwing her way, and he didn’t appreciate their arrogance. Still, Jamie knew that showing too much concern could backfire, making Autumn feel like he doubted her ability to handle her own struggles, like she needed to be protected and coddled. He just wanted to be there for her during difficult times.
The truth was, she could face them and handle them well. While Autumn didn’t need his care, she could still feel the warmth behind his presence. He also understood the nature of her relationship with Damien.
“There’s only about a month before the divorce cooling-off period ends,” Autumn said. “Once it’s over, per the divorce certificate, I’ll have nothing to do with Damien anymore.” Jamie had vaguely sensed that something was amiss between them, but he hadn’t expected they were already in the midst of a divorce.
That was great news. He had previously been worried that Autumn would continue to suffer and be hurt. Jammu nodded in agreement. After all, she still hadn’t fully let go of her anger toward Damien. Their incompatibility was evident in every choice they made. Damien should have owned up to marrying her, but of course, he failed to do that.
The matter now was that Autumn must own up to the fact that she had once loved him. Her lingering feelings and the possibility of future fertility struggles were simply consequences of her mistake—a mistake she had to face. There was no running from it; there was no point in complaining. All she could do was remind herself that she’d learned her lesson, that this bitter experience wouldn’t be forgotten, and that she would never make the same mistake again.
All Autumn wanted to do was move forward. Only Della Colley was still there. He leaned closer to Damien and whispered, “Ms. Gray must be Mr. Lawson’s secretary. With her skills, there’s no way she’s qualified to be…”
Accompanying Lomu, Jaquin didn’t have the qualifications. Damien nodded. He knew Batue would support him, no matter what. She was probably just trying to get a…
Noticing that talking about Kami had put Basie in a bad mood, he quickly dropped the subject.
