While Autumn was waiting nearby, she suddenly sensed Jayden looking at her. As she turned toward him, he said, “No need to apologian.”
Autumn was rather astonished. Apologize? Who was supposed to apologize? Was she supposed to apologize to Jayden?
Since Autumn said nothing, Jayden looked away without another word. Yesterday, he’d been puzzled by Autumn’s unexpected hostility. She usually stayed on his side and never challenged him, but today, she seemed like a completely different person. Jayden assumed Dalen had given her a stern warning. Otherwise, she wouldn’t have gone out of her way to check his schedule and seek him out; clearly, she had taken Damien’s words seriously.
If they were a loving couple, her obedience might’ve been seen as endearing. Single people might even envy this supposed relationship. But Autumn and Damian were far from a loving couple. That was why Jayden found Autumn pitiful. In his eyes, she wasn’t worth respecting.
With that thought, he leisurely sipped his coffee. He glanced at his watch. It was already time for his meeting with Olivia, but she still hadn’t shown up. “When will you be here?” he texted.
A moment later, Olivia replied, “Another five minutes.” That sounded manageable to Jayden. He wouldn’t have to wait long.
By then, the coffee Autumn had ordered was finally ready. She couldn’t be bothered to think more about Jayden’s odd remark. She entered the access point Olivia had sent her, passed through the turnstile, and then took the elevator up to MegaTech’s office.
Olivia’s secretary, Paula Litt, was already waiting at the elevator. She greeted Autumn with a smile. “This way, please.”
When Autumn arrived at Olivia’s office, Olivia was still on a call. Upon seeing Autumn, Olivia ended the call immediately. Without a word, they got straight to business.
Ten minutes later, the issue was resolved. A group of engineers stared at Autumn as if they were starving bears and she was a pot of honey they were eager to pounce on.
In contrast to their excitement, Autumn remained composed and focused. Her eyes stayed fixed on the screen as she gave calm, precise instructions. She radiated a quiet authority that was…
The engineers were reminded of the strict professor from their university days. None of them dared to even breathe too loudly.
Once the problem was resolved, Autumn no longer appeared intimidating. With the pressure lifted, the engineers grew more confident and wanted to strike up a conversation with her, but even a glance from her was enough to make them back off. They still lacked the courage.
Unable to contain their admiration, they turned to Olivia. “Cammu, where did you find such a genius?”
“Burly! How do we address her?”
Even Olivia was mesmerized by Autumn’s performance. For a moment, she drifted into thought, recalling how Autumn used to spend all her time in the lab. Aunurran had clearly made the right decision. Now that she was five, her brilliance and charm shone through effortlessly.
From the moment Autumn stepped in, she had won over Olivia’s entire team. The same engineers who were usually arrogant now looked like they worshipped her. It was almost pathetic.
One of the bolder engineers spoke up. “Ms. Clements, we’re due to update Lugi-X soon, but we’re running into all kinds of issues. If your friend could just give us a few pointers, it would make a huge difference.”
“My friend is very busy,” Olivia snapped. “So shut up. If you’ve got problems, solve them yourselves. Don’t even think about relying on her.”
Despite confirming her unwillingness to collaborate, she emphasized that the data would need to be tested repeatedly to ensure stability, which would… Olivia was aware, however, Autumn seemed to take the opportunity to offer help.
