Chapter 755
โI have no idea, honestly. All I know is, they never came home last night,โ Hal said, sticking out his lower lip and continuing to grumble.
Ivyโs nerves tightened. She was terrified the old lady would sense something was off.
โYour mom and dad definitely came back,โ she said, hugging him close and smoothing her voice into the sweetest reassurance. โYou mustโve fallen asleep and didnโt notice.โ
โBut I didnโt see them this morning, either.โ
โThatโs because you slept in, and theyโd already left for work.โ
Hal mulled this over, still pouting. โWell, all they ever do is work, work, work. Even on weekends, they donโt spend time with me.โ
Sure enough, Adela Ludwig, listening to her grandsonโs complaints, grew suspicious again. โWhat on earth are Thad and Davina up to? Who has to work all weekend?โ She aimed the question at her husband.
Danny, reading the paper through thick glasses, didnโt bother looking up. โYou know how it isโthereโs always something going on at the office. Working weekends is practically the norm these days. And Davinaโs job keeps her busy too. Maybe sheโs just catching up with friends, having lunch, relaxing a bit.โ
Ivy glanced at Danny, marveling at how smoothly he wove the lie. It was seamlessโnothing out of place.
Adela still felt something wasnโt right, but when she thought it through, nothing seemed entirely out of the ordinary.
After a pause, she sighed, โCome to think of it, I havenโt seen Carla around these past few days. I wonder how her divorce case is going.โ
โMom, you just focus on getting better. Let the rest of us handle everything else,โ Ivy said gently.
โSheโs my daughterโhow can I not worry? Itโs bad enough she had to deal with Micah, and now Farley Shepherd turns out to be a monster. I trusted him for years, and look where that got us. Shows you never really know someone.โ Adelaโs jaw was clenched with anger as she spoke of her son-in-law.
Ivy could only say, โHeโll get whatโs coming to him. Sooner or later, karma catches up..."
